THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 9, 2004 THE NEW TANNER | 11 Illegal burning keeps firefighters hopping A Churchill Road North homeowner was told to stop burning wood pallets in a backyard fire pit after Acton firefighters received an open- air burning complaint at 10:31 on Saturday night. The homeowner did not have a required burn permit and was advised to douse the fire and apply for a permit before conducting any further burning. BUSH PARTY FIRE Acton firefighters extin- guished the dying embers in a fire pit following reports of a bush party on 32 Side Road, west of Highway 25, at 12:36 on Sunday morning. Although no flames were seen, the firefighters found the fire pit in a field north of where the bush party was re- ported. SCORCHED OUTLET A Main Street North home- owner was advised to call an electrician before turning the power back on after she came Police/ Fire Report home from holidays at 11:42 Sunday afternoon and smelled smoke in her bed- room and found a scorched electrical outlet. Using their thermal imaging camera, Acton fire- fighters were able to detect an area of elevated heat behind a wall. They turned off the power supply until an elec- trician could be called. Concern with speeders Wellington OPP conducted extensive patrols over this past Labour Day Weekend and are pleased that there were no motor ve- hicle fatalities on County roadways or waterways. However, there is some con- cern with the number of speeders that have been charged with driving in ex- cess of 30km/hr or more over the posted speed limit.
