Thank you The Community Christmas Luncheon Committee (CCEC) Letters 'Moderate' on hunting but dead deer photos rankle To the Editor, - I am pleasantly surprised that someone wrote to you re- garding the photo of the dead deer and not surprised that you received letters in response. I almost e-mailed a letter but did not out of the respect for hunters but I must say that the photo kept popping up in my mind for a few days and re- gretted not writing to you. I have not eaten meat for years, as one of the pro hunter's response assumes Mr. Adrian Smith Project Manager City of Brampton Planning and Building Department 2 Wellington Street West Brampton, Ontario L6Y 4R2 Phone: (905) 874-2052 Fax: (905) 874-2099 adrian.smith @city.brampton.on.ca NOTICE OF STUDY COMMENCEMENT & NOTICE OF FIRST PUBLIC INFORMATION CENTRE TERMS OF REFERENCE FOR THE ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT THE NORTH-SOUTH CORRIDOR AND BRAMWEST PARKWAY FROM HIGHWAY 401/407 TO MAYFIELD ROAD The City of Brampton is preparing the Terms of Reference for a future Individual Environmental Assessment (EA) for a new North-South transportation corridor from Highway 401 in Halton to Mayfield Road in Brampton, and the Bramwest Parkway transportation corridor: in Brampton from Highway 407 to the new North-South corridor. So you can say I'ma moderate... however, I did not think it was necessary to put a dead animal on the FRONT page... mid newspa- per would have been more respectful. As a child, when my dad came home from hunting with a deer, I cried and truly hated my dad until it "disappeared" and I refused to eat meat for months. For the hunter that would consider being a "'mod- erate" there is a wonderful book about a father and son hunting called "Billy-Boy", author John Luther Long, written in 1905. I end regretfully saying "happy hunting" but would appreciate if you would put a tarp over the deer that drapes your vehicle so the animal lovers can respect your ideals as well. Jane Kraweak Helie Editor's note: The photo of the deer in The New Tanner was not on the front page. It was on Page 10 of the Novem- ber 4 issue. Downtown benches better in safer location - To the Editor, I would like to know who the "Einstein" was that thought placing benches at a crosswalk was a good idea. I am referring to the ones in- stalled at the crosswalk in downtown Acton. Frequently there are people standing around these, as well as sitting. T can't tell you how many * times as a driver I questioned whether these people wanted to cross or were just hanging around. This is a very danger- ous situation as it makes drivers question the intent of pedestrians at this intersection. Drivers should not have to guess if you really want to cross the road or not. The other serious danger is that drivers may become com- placent at this crosswalk, thinking that people are just there at the benches and not writer really going to cross. This to me is an accident waiting to. happen. These benches are just inviting people to hang around at a crosswalk. Do you not think that unless you're intending to cross the road, no one should be any- where near this area for any length of time. This letter is not to criticize the people at these benches, it is to hold ac- countable the person or persons that made the place- ment decision. There would be no shame in moving these away from the crosswalk and reconsidering their placement. The shame would be if someone got hurt or worse, had to die, to rectify this hazard. "On the Way to Bethlehem," an activity for the whole family and a way to experience that very first Christmas 2000 years ago. An attempt was made to stage the pageant in Acton last year but the obstacles put it on hold.
