Over 70 mem- bers attended. Acting President Dave Dodgson introduced Mayor Rick Bonnette who congratulated mem- bers on increasing their membership, and the many interesting programs. During 2004 there were 13,000 visits to the Centre for one purpose or another. He mentioned one of the founding members Eileen Eberts, and said without her drive and foresight the centre wouldn't be what - it is today. Terry Alyman, Director of Recreation and * Parks, congratulated us on our up coming 10" an- niversary, saying it was a robust and busy Centre. He congratulated the volunteers and staff for a job well done. Dave Dodgson touched on some of the newer programs being offered at the Centre including M.LM. (Men in Motion) the hiking club, Band, and the Art Club starting up shortly. Dave said we are building bridges in our com- munities and surrounding area by being involved in the income tax clinic, foot clinic and supporting needy families at Christmas. The nominating committee of Donna Rowley and Margaret Anderson conducted the election and Dave Dodgson was voted as President for 2005. Retiring board members Margaret Anderson, Do- reen Gibb and the late Betty Cole and Betty Green, were replaced by Jim Blair (Property), Alice Clarke (Transportation/Reception), Wayne Stew- art (Fundraising), and Mary Walsma (Travel). The afternoon was concluded by a recital by the newly formed Melody Makers, their reper- toire included a vigorous rendition of This Land is Your Land, to the quieter Amazing Grace. The instruments included kazoos, maracas, drums, and keyboard. Everyone enjoyed the music. Consid- ering how short a time they have been playing together it was a great performance. They are still looking for new members, so come out and join them. We certainly have many hidden talents at the Centre. The meeting concluded with refreshments. -Julie Conroy Grand Valley edges Acton from tourney The Acton Tanners-AE Pee- Wee team, (R&M Construction) entered a tournament in Arthur last weekend. Acton's first challenge was a select team from Fergus. Acton played a fast, energetic game. In the first period, our AP player, Cole Fricker, managed to carry the puck all the way up the ice to the Fergus net. He put the puck onto the stick of James Begg who took a great shot and put the puck into the top left side of the net to open up the scoring. The game went back and forth in the second period with both teams playing a hard, fast game. It wasn't until the third period when Acton seemed to take control of the game that the scoring continued. At the end of an Acton penal- ty, Roger Kirkness took the puck up the ice into the Fergus zone and tucked goal number 2 passed the Fergus netminder, unassisted. Not long after, on a shorthanded play, James Begg took the puck and found an opening in the Fer- gus defence netting the third goal for Acton, also unassisted. Acton ended the game with a commanding 3 to 0 score giving goaltender, Andrew Cheeseman the shutout win: Grand Valley next The Tanners met up with a fast Grand Valley team in the second game. Acton had trouble with Grand Valley in a previous tournament but this time, Acton was ready for them, controlling the puck for most of the game. Goaltender, Jesse Harris played an outstanding game for Acton thwarting many chances for Grand Valley's shooters. The game remained tied un- til the third period when Cole Fricker took a timely pass from Jake Box and Jonathon Porty. Cole fired a shot passed the Grand Valley netminder giving Acton the lead. Acton held the lead until a misplay at the Acton blue line keeping the puck in the zone. Grand Valley was quick to capi- talize on this and soon netted the tying goal of the game. Grand Valley soon put an end to Acton's hopes for a chance in the final game of the tournament, pocketing the winning goal at 1:18 of the game. Acton continues the Tri- County.playoffs next Saturday, March 5. cd] fe Three tough losses for Atoms... Continued from page 13 Saturday against Woolwich for another close game. Even with almost even shots the Bulls could not come away with the win. In the first period the shots on net were even and no goals were scored. Period number two saw Woolwich get one more shot on net than Acton did but one of ours went in. Dylan Bickers got the first and only of the game with Carter Ebbing and Greg Wells getting the assist. Going down one player with Jacob Macpherson in the penalty box for cross checking the cap- tain put on his "go fast" skates and found himself in Caledon's end where he scored a short- handed goal, number four, from Adam Duval and Billy Mowat. Up by three goals now, the boys gota little bit to confident. Caledon came back to tie it up with only 1.1 second left in the second period. The game got faster and rougher as the clock ticked away. With the physical end of the game getting to one of our big Bulls, Adam Duval found himself in the penalty box for elbowing. Wyatt Martin came back with our fifth goal from Carter Ebbinge and Mason Galway. It was back and forth for goals going into the end of the game David Bickers got his second of the afternoon, from his brother Dylan and Connor Hitchcock . However, the end result was a disappointing 7-6 loss from a hard fought battle.
