16 THE NEW TANNER THURSDAY, MARCH 10, 2005 Recreation Centre -ACTON SENIORS' RECREATION CENTRE By JuLtzE Conroy There are still a few seats available for the trip to Rama on Wednesday, March 30. Don't forget if you are unable to make the trip and have to cancel please call Ruth at 853-5124. There is no point leaving a message at the Cen- tre, as the bus leaves at 8:30 a.m. and the Centre doesn't open until 9a.m. Ruth tells me there were no mooners in Bid Euchre last week. If you enjoy playing Eu- chre, join us at the Centre for the monthly evening game on Wednesday, March 16-at 7.15p.m. Everyone who enjoys a good game of cards and great company is welcome. (Of course you can play cards every Thursday during the day). The Spring Fashion Show is fast approaching, and the Centre is providing the mod- els. We can expect to see the latest Spring wear from Alia, on models that look like real people we can all relate to. The date? Tuesday, March 15 at 2p.m. Cost is $3.00 and includes refreshments. The people. who attended the question and answer afternoon with our local representative Mike: Chong M.M.P. were impressed with his knowledge, and answers, and felt confident he was rep- resenting us to our advantage. Not many people attended, so I guess that means we have no real issues at the moment. Last call for those wishing to make wine this session. They will be making it shortly and bottling it in May so you still have time to sign up. The Melody Makers, our own Acton Seniors Centre band, had their stage debut at Georgetown on February 26. There were people there from all over Ontario, and they were well received. In fact they had a standing ovation. Considering they haven't been playing together that long it is a remarkable achievement. They practice on Tuesday, at 7p.m. and have openings if you are in the least musical. The lunch on Friday, March 11 will be soup and sandwich. Five dollars will get you soup (choice of two) a sandwich and desert. Joan will be at the piano for those wishing to join in the Sing Along before lunch. Tickets for the St Patrick's Day dinner are all sold. 1 know it will be the usual great success. After having your fill of corn beef and cabbage, carrots and taties, plus good old Irish Soda Bread, you will be entertained by our own Melody Makers. Keep in mind the Spring Fling on April 30. Pat Pat- terson is hoping. you have lots of plants you want to get rid of, plus she is looking for donations of crafts. Lunch will be available. In carpet bowling the Brown team finally won!! Marg Harrington's team beat Stella Brunelle's Black team 15-11 and there were lots of smiles on the faces of Marg's team. Margaret Neilson said she had never seen them so happy! It's the Black team's turn to buy the beer or coffee for a change Still with "sports" in mind I hear the men beat the women again at darts, and Donna said they are desperate for some new players, especially women There is a sign-up list for anyone wishing a more gentle form of Exercise Program. If you are interested in ex- ercise, but not able to do the more energetic type, sign up, and we will try to compile a program suitable for your needs. There are quite a few peo- ple interested in watercolour painting. If you think you would enjoy this activity sign up, then we know how many would like to participate. Looking forward to spring and in need of a break? The travel desk can help. On April 7 there is a five day trip to Washington for the Cherry Blossom Festival. The Senior Centre Hiking group had-a pleasant hike along part of the Guelph Trail just west of Acton two weeks ago Friday, but said the hill was quite steep. Peggy (with her short legs) needed a boost to reach the top of the hill, but it was worth it. The group meets at the Centre at lp.m every Friday weather permitting. Last week we walked another stretch of the Guelph Trail, starting at Watson Road, just south of Stone Road, and walked for about one and a half hours. It is a fairly flat section of the trail and all nine people enjoyed it. Last week the 50/50 Draw was won by Stephanie West- erway, and this week by Marie Anderson.
