16 Dirt bikes, ATVs barred from Trail Wellington O.P.P. has received several complaints regarding dirt bikes, ATVs and other motorized ve- hicles illegally using the Cataract Trail near the 8th Line of Erin (formerly 27 Side Road). Snowmobiles are the only motorized vehicles allowed to use this trail. Now the weather is changing, people are starting to use the trail and are complaining about the unauthorized use by motor- ized vehicles, police said The Town of Erin has now posted signs restrict- ing the use of the trail, informing the public that no motorized vehicles are permitted. Officers can now utilize the Trespass to Property Act to enforce these signs. The minimum penalty for engaging in a prohibited activity is $110 but repeat offenders can be sum- monsed for a higher penalty. Officers issued 363 seatbelt vio- lations to motorists who were not wearing seatbelts. A number of motor- ists were cautioned for not wearing DR. Oh how times LiJ 2y NOB 2K0 THURSDAY, APRIL 28, 2005 Wellington O.P.P.« --------= Repot = Bank robber charged On Tuesday July 27, 2004 Wellington OPP re- sponded to a robbery at the TD Canada Trust bank located at 125 Main Street in Erin. The suspect made a de- mand for cash and left a suspicious package inside the bank. The sus- pect walked out of the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash. He was last seen getting into a small teal coloured vehicle and travelling north on Daniel Street. The Wellington O.P.P. Crime Unit and the Western Region O.P.P. Technical Identification Services Unit responded to the scene to assist with the investigation. The Western Region O.P.P. Tactical Re- sponse Unit also attended the scene to deal with a suspicious package left by the suspect. The Guelph Police Ser- vice apprehended a suspect last week in an unrelated robbery. Subsequent in- vestigation by members of the Wellington O.P.P. Crime Unit along with the assistance of the Guelph Police resulted in the iden- tification and successful apprehension of the same suspect for the Erin bank robbery. A 57-year-old Guelph man was arrested and charged with rob- bery. He appeared in Guelph Court on April 21, for a bail hearing. Drunk Driver On Thursday, April 21 at 1:55a.m. a Wellington O.P.P. officer investigated the driver of a 1997 Dodge pick-up on the First Line of Erin Township. The driver had been drinking. A 55-year-old Mississau- ga man was arrested and faces charges of Impaired Driving and Driving with more than 80 mgs. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Court on May 23. Domestic Violence On Wednesday, April 20 at 10:03a.m., Wellington O.P.P. responded to a re- port of a domestic assault at a business on St. An- drew Street East in Fergus. Investigation revealed that a 42-year-old female had been assaulted and threat- ened by her spouse a few days earlier. No injuries were sustained. A 44-year-old male from Elora was arrested and faces-charges of as- sault and. uttering-death threats.
