They will provide bags and pick them up, as well as help to fill them. The forecast calls for excellent weather but, just in case, the rain date is May 14. Police wrestle with wild escaped calf By Rebecca Ring The Rockwood Miller workers helped police corral the animal into the fenced properties of both busi- nesses. Unfortunately, the terrified calf. made a break for the gate and ran out toward Hwy. 7. Fearing a collision, one of Fellow's. farm workers grabbed the calf by the ears and three men wrestled him to the ground. Ted Wright, of System Fencing, made a makeshift halter and tied the calf to a fence post. Turnbull tried to offer the calf wa- ter but he was unapproachable in his panicked state. While the police were attempting to locate the owner, a Canada Post worker offered to keep him at her farm. : Rob Fellows arrived with a horse trailer and the calf was loaded on and brought to his temporary home. Although some of the men sustained cuts and bruises, no one was seriously injured thanks to everyone working together. Last Friday, employees of SERGE Beverage & Conveyors and System Fencing were amazed to see a large calf running down Seventh Line near Hwy. 7 pursued by two police cars. In case of rain, the sale will move inside the parish hall and join the community garage sale, which takes place at the same time. 2 Weekend to End Breast Cancer Gigantic Garage Sale A group of Rockwood women, the Rockwood Walkettes, is having a gigantic garage sale to raise funds to fight breast cancer. They will participate in the Weekend to End Breast Cancer, a 60km walk held in Toronto. Proceeds go to the Princess Margaret Hospital to help in the treatment and search for a cure for breast cancer. The garage sale is Saturday, May 21, from 7am to 2pm, with a rain date of May 22. It will be in the Rockwood Ridge Subdivision at the corner of Ridge and Dunbar. In addition to garage sale items, there will be a lemonade stand and bake sale. * Rockwood Walkettes Summer Dinner and Dance at Curwin's Pub The Rockwood Walkettes are hosting a dinner, dance, and si- lent auction at Curwin's Pub on Saturday, June 4. The evening will feature a roast beef dinner, dessert, DJ, dancing and silent auction. Doors open at 6pm. Tickets are available at Curwin's Pub. Planting Trees to Celebrate Earth Day Guelph/Eramosa Township is extending Earth Day cel- ebrations by planting 1,000 trees with Rockwood Centennial Public School children. Planting begins at 9am on May 9 at Valentino Park. Parents and the public are invited to help out. The trees were purchased through Wellington County's Green Legacy Program. Wear gloves and bring a shovel. Brad Roelofson and his crew from the township's Property and Leisure Services will be overseeing the event. Rockwood Foodland will be providing lunch for the kids. Another Green Legacy tree planting event is being held on May 5 at the deGroot family farm in Eramosa. The male then got into his vehicle and followed the woman and rammed her ve- hicle from the rear and again shot at the woman as she drove away. The man was later located at his mother's residence in Guelph where he was ar- rested. He was held for a bail hearing scheduled for that day. LCBO BREAK-IN Wellington O.P.P. is seek- ing help from the public to solve a break-in that occurred at the Erin L.C.B.O. on Main Street, Erin. Sometime between 2a.m. and 2:50a.m. on Tuesday, April 26, someone broke into Wellington O.P.P.<« ------ Repot === the store by smashing the glass on the front door. Once inside, they removed a large quantity of liquor. A 1993 Plymouth Acclaim was recovered in a farmer's field on the 5th Line, Erin, a vehicle reported stolen by Hamilton Police. A 1994 Plymouth Voyager van Lic: 158-ERX (Ontario) was re- ported stolen from Everton. Police believe both of these vehicles may have been in- volved in the break-in. ROAD RAGE, ASSAULT Officers from Wellington OPP were called to County Road 32 and County Road 124 for an assault on Friday, April 29 at 12:30p.m. Police said a male.was trav- "elling south on County 32 and turing right onto 124 when he was struck from behind. He approached the white cube van that struck his vehicle and a verbal argument ensued. The driver of the cube van then punched the male several times, police said before the man got into his vehicle, call- ing 911 as he drove away The suspect is described as a male, white, late 50's, 180|bs, 5'10, with grey/white short hair and a grey/white beard.
