CANADIAN CHAMPIONS: Acton Jiu Jitsu members were in a medal mood at the Canadian Jiu-Jitsu Association's Nationals Tournament in Barrie the weekend of June 4-5. They made Sensei Linda Bromley proud by bagging six gold, three silver and five bronze medals in very stiff competition. Instructor Cindy Vanderveen, Sensei Linda Squires with Arthur Biernacki, Justin Cheng, Krystina Minicuci, Ashley Cheng. In front are David Roebuck, Cassie Minicuci, Sheldon Hannaford and Bart Amroz. Missing from the photo are black belt instructors, Senseis Chris Rogers and Dan McNeil, who says Sensei Linda Squires efforts were very apparent and contributed so much to the fine Acton Jiu Jitsu showing. It was a busy week for the Acton Golf Centre Rookie Ball team this week as they played three games. In back-to-back games against the Georgetown Blue Jays each team earned one win. The first inning Squirt Girls thumped 13-1 by Arthur, then down Drayton/Moorefield 15-3 By Vicki Anderson The Shoppers DrugMart Squirt Girls played three games last week and got better every game. They started off playing in Arthur Sunday, June-5 and didn't have a very good game, losing 13-1. Courtney Brown was the only one to score. Although Miranda Rodda had a great pitching debut and Desiray Ebbinge closed the game, our bats were very quiet. Kristine Ferris did hit a line drive to second base; unfortunately it was caught. Desiray got a double and that was about it. When the girls came out on Monday, June 6, they were better focused playing Drayton/Moorefield. Their bats started to come to life and they won the game 15-3. Drayton's pitching is much slower than Arthur's, so our girls were less intimidated and started to swing. Ka- trina Harding, Kristine Ferris, Desiray Ebbinge and Courtney Brown all got on and scored 3 out of 3 times at bat. Karla McDougall, Ashley Stokman, Mi- randa Rodda got on base 3 for 3 as well. Miranda Rodda gave pitching another go and did great, going three innings with quite a few strikeouts under her belt. De- siray Ebbinge came in the fourth frame and struck out all three batters. Coaches were all glad to see the real Shoppers DrugMart squirt girls show up on that night. As a matter of fact the only error made was by Mr. Katie (assistant coach). He sent Miranda to second with the bases loaded causing total chaos. He's new, so the team forgave him. Thanks, Bill! On Wednesday, June 8 the girls were in Grand Valley and they played fantastic despite an 8-7 loss, but it was probably our best game so far.
