No matter what routine you travel, you are likely to meet-up with a School Bus. Plan ahead, give yourself that extra few minutes of travelling time so you won't become impatient. We all know School Busses make frequent stops to pickup and drop off our children, so it shouldn't come as a big surprise that our daily commute will be longer. It's also important to remember that School Bus routes and stops change, year-to-year and sometimes day-to- day. As a responsible driver you must be ever alert for School Busses travel- ling in your area. School Busses are purposely made to be visible as possible, with their bright colour, flashing lights and stop bars. Do not expect any leniency, when school busses are involved, if stopped by the police for disobeying the law. You will receive a fine, of several hundred dollars and be assessed 6 demerit points. The Branch mourns the passing of our comrade Frank O'Rourke. Frank served with the Ca- nadian Navy during WWI11, and was a 38 year member of the Royal Canadian Legion. A Legion Tribute was held on Thursday, August 11 at J. S. Jones & Son Funeral Home, Georgetown. Our deepest sympathy is extended to his family at this most distress- ing time. At the going down of the Sun And in the morning We will Remember them. Comrades: We are having a Family Fun Day On Sunday, August 28. Please note Sunday. This is planned as a fun day, for your family. Please bring the kids, and the grandkids. There will be a Bar-B-Q, a fishing derby, hoola hoop contest, and a bal- loon toss. Those who attend will be exposed to surprise grab bags and all kinds of other good fun. The show gets on the road at Ip.m. sharp and ends at 4p.m. You come down, you enjoy yourself. You don't come down? On Saturday, August 20 we will have live entertainment on the Patio. "Mid Life Crisis" will be delivering rock & roll music, to go along with the Bar-B-Q fare, weather permit- ting. Come on down. The experiment of Sunday openings at Branch 197 con- tinues throughout the month of August. Your Acton Legion will be open from 12noon to 6p.m. each Sunday in Au- gust. Despite the weather, Com- rade Leo had a good turnout on Sunday morning for the clean- up and shine the plane day. Our thanks to the following for their efforts: John Wagg, Tara Ferguson, Bob Service, Brian Wilson, Melvin Rolfe, Tim and Wayne Briggs, Vince Sicard, Rob Crook, Hartley Deforest, and, of course, the star of the show Leo Lahey. Fall Fair Weekend is com- ing up fast, September 15-17. Steve Dunn will be playing for our entertainment on Friday and Saturday. Dates for your diary: The Sunnybrook Vets will be making their annual visit to Branch 197 as guests of our Ladies' Auxiliary on Sunday, September 11. They will be arriving between 11-11:30a. m., why not come down and welcome them? Yours in comradeship, Grant increase for energy-efficient homes Natural Resources Canada is now investing more money into grants for homeowners who improve their energy-effi- ciency through the EnerGuide for Houses service. While an incentive grant has been available since October of 2003, the reward level has now been increased by $100 across each step. For example, if you improve from a 60 to a 70 you will get $650, whereas previously it would have only been $550. The increase in the grant means that the cost of using the EnerGuide for Houses service ends up being free, if the required three points of improvement is achieved. The lowest grant is $215, which more than pays for the total cost of both required visits of $175. The higher grant rewards will apply to all existing cli- ents of the Halton Residential Energy Efficiency Project (REEP), even though at the time of the pre-test the smaller grant table was in use. All new clients will automati- cally be rewarded on the new scale (provided they improve their EGH rating by at least 3 points). Homeowners use REEP to get a baseline EGH rating, advice on what upgrades to perform and a follow-up rat- ing. Then REEP sends in their grant application. Until March 31, 2006, if the upgrades undertaken in- clude the installation of an ENERGY STAR®-qualified high-efficiency furnace, a direct incentive of up to $100 will be awarded. This is on top of any EnerGuide for Houses Retrofit Incentive grant. Homeowners wishing to access these incentives can call 866-501-1112, or book through www.thereep.ca.
