The three -- Melissa Bigg, Kristen Lowe and Kaitlyn Andrews -- were among nine individuals and three teams honoured for their accom- plishments and dedication to excellence. Melissa Bigg's soccer skills helped earn her team a berth at the National Soccer Club championships in Nova Scotia from October 5 to 10. Bigg plays for the Erin Mills Eagles that captured the Un- der-18 Ontario Cup with a 1-0 win over Richmond Hill. She is a Grade 12 student at Acton High School, who began playing with the Georgetown Soccer Club as a 5-year-old, and was on a rep team before she was 10. Bigg joined the Erin Mills Eagles two years ago and devotes four or five sessions a week to training and games with the Eagles, who play in the Ontario Youth Soccer League, the highest level of youth play in Ontario. Kristen Lowe is a member of the Waterdown, Raiders Girls Volleyball team that won a Silver medal at the 2004 Eastern Canadian Under-15 championships. At that competition, Lowe was named to the all-star team and received the Ontario Vol- leyball Association Award of Excellence. During consolation round play this year, Lowe was se- lected to play on the Ontario Regional Volleyball team at the Ontario Summer Games, where she was named best all-round player, and received the All Ontario Award for best passer, as voted by Ontario coaches. Lowe, who began play- ing as a seven-year-old at Brookville Public School, has played elite volleyball for the past three years in the Tier | provincial level. Acton High School student Kaitlyn Andrews was hon- oured for her Gold medal wins in the shot put and discus. She is the 2005 Ontario Federation of Schools Athletic Associa- tion Track and Field Senior Gold medallist in the shot put and discus. Andrews, who recently switched to field events after an initial interest in track that began eight years ago, was also recognized for her Gold medal achievements in shot put and discus at the 2005 Ontario and Junior National Track and Field championships; her shot put Gold medal performance representing Team Ontario at the 2005 National Scholastic Indoor track and Field cham- pionships. Andrews was also a member of the 2005 Canadian National Junior Track and field: team that competed at the Junior Pan American championships.
