The Guelph Pipe Band led the pa- rade to the cenotaph. Mayor Clint Martin, a Korean War veteran, conducted the Act of Remembrance. Wreaths were placed by Federal, Provincial and Township representatives, the Royal Canadian Legion 197, RCMP, Fire Depart- ment Volunteers, Lions Club, Eden House Nursing Home, Guides, Brownies, Cubs, Scouts, and families. He served in the Navy for 22 years. He spoke of the vio- lence and wars in the world. He thanked those "who laid down their lives for what we believe in...for freedom." He reminded the gathering to remember the past so as to live in the present and see the way to the future. He quoted 1* Corinthians saying "There is no greater love than this that one lay down his life for his friends." Rev. Lynne Bandy of the Rockwood and Stone United Church then prayed for humankind to use their knowledge to save lives, not to destroy them. Lou D'Arcy led the gathering in song and Rev.
