THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 17, 2005 THE NEW TANNER BENCH MARK: Rev. Canon Mark Tiller of St. Alban's Anglican Church blessed and dedicated a bench in Rotary Park, Acton, Ont., from funds given to Acton Rotary Club from fellow Rotarians in Acton, England. Seated are Rotar- ians Herb Dodds and Bill Sanford. Standing, Doug Fread, Mac Sprowl and Bob MacKinnon. In the British manner Acton, England gift dedicated The 100" Anniversary of the founding of Rotary was celebrated throughout the world during the 2004-2005 Rotary Year. Clubs through- out the world were asked to consider a "centennial project" over and above normal year to year chari- table endeavours. The Rotary Club of Acton, Ontario, has com- mitted to build a band shell in Prospect Park as their "centennial project." Events such as: the 7" Annual Wine and Cheese which will be held this Friday at the Acton Town Hall, as well as a proposed big band dance and a pending elimination draw will help to fund the band shell. For their "centennial proj- ect," the Rotary Club of Acton, England provided the Rotary Club of Acton, Ontario with the necessary funding to purchase a bench which was installed in "Ro- tary Park," overlooking Fairy Lake. "Come to me all that labour and are heavy laden and I will give you rest." With these words the "Ro- tary Bench" was recently blessed and dedicated in true Church of England fashion by the Rev. Canon J. Mark Tiller of St. Alban's Anglican Church. "May all who use it find it a place of rest, a place of peace and a place to recall your great gift." In the British manner... from Acton, England to Acton, Ontario -- a truly unique gift in celebration of 100 years of Rotary. Clinic vets brought quality of life... Continued from page 8 and her remarkable staff have worked untold hours researching and treating their ailments. They have brought a quality of life to these poor dogs that is truly amazing. I would suspect that Felix had an underlying condition besides kidney stones. The fact that Dr. Maine delegated the sur- gery to another vet'is a mute point. It is highly likely the results would have been the same if Dr. Maine had operated. Ms. Schroeder obviously feels justified in running to the College with ev- ery little complaint. She's done it in the past. Why continue to use a vet you felt you had to complain about? Why also use the media to vilify a Rockwood vet? I hope Ms. Schroeder feels better after her news- paper rant. I just hope she hasn't caused some clients to leave Rockwood Vet,» thus depriving their pets of the top notch medical care they would get there. Daughters-of Knox Devastation of HIV/AIDS in Africa described by students The Daughters of Knox's new study for the coming year is on HIV/AIDS. At the November meeting two ex- change students from Africa attending the University of Guelph spoke to them on the subject. ; The students are in Canada under the Canadian Gov- ernment's Canadian World Youth Program. The young man, Robert Robert, was from Tanzania and the young lady from Kenya. They il- lustrated facts and figures of this ravaging disease, which is growing at an alarming rate worldwide. The Presbyterian Church in Canada has a two-year campaign, "Towards a World Without AIDS" led by Pres- byterian World Service and Development. The Wom- en's Missionary Society of The Presbyterian Church in Canada has made a special grant this year of $15,000. The Daughters of Knox is a branch of the Women's Mis- sionary Society. The goal for the Canadian Church is $500,000 of which $434,000 has been raised. Fundrais- ers have bee held across the country. Another young man accom- panied the guest speaker but he is in a different program and is attending Ignatius Col- lege in Guelph. His home is in Montreal. When these students go . to Africa next month, they will try to make a dent in educating their countrymen in an effort to stem the fur- ther spread of HIV/AIDS. They believe the basic cause is poverty and lack of ed- ucation, and when one is poor and uneducated the natural evolution is stealing and prostitution. They also pointed out that the primary transmitter of HIV/AIDS is in blood. i | Acton *Proud member of the Canadian Jiu Jitsu Associations (519)853-2424 5A MILL STREET, E.
