In Chief Dan Hitchcock, and gift givers Grant Howson, Kyle Dawe, Bernie Liebig, EWAG staff Gillian Riseborough, fire fighters Sunny Side Up Day Camp discontinued Brad Roelofson, Manager of Property and Leisure Ser- vices, presented council with a cost/benefit analysis of Sunnyside Up Day Camp. It showed an average annual less of $4,750. Enrolment in the program has declined since 2003, from 151 to 99 participants. Roelofson said this is probably due to poor location (Town Hall) with no parking, pool, outdoor play area or nature trails. Partici- pants have either outgrown this program or are turning Guelph/ Eramosa to more activity based camps (horse riding, Camp Brebeuf, etc) within easy driving distance of Rockwood. In addition, the well-liked co- ordinator is not returning which will further affect enrolment. Council resolved to discontinue the program and transfer the reserve of $7,232.57 to the department's equipment reserve. Council Chips by Rebecca Ring Heritage Committee to save old school items Chris White updated coun- cil on the activities of the Heritage Committee. He said that old records, photos, etc. were found at Rockwood Centennial School. These items pre-date amalgamation and record much of the histo- ry of one room schoolhouses as far back as the 1890's. Councillors argue over Economic Development Committee Chris White updated coun- cil on the activities of the Economic Development Committee. He said that there are two areas of activity; industrial and commercial development. Regarding in- dustrial, there are 500 acres available advertised on the township's website but the problems are the land is private and not serviced. Regarding commercial de- velopment, the committee has been invigorating REBA (Rockwood Eramosa Busi- ness Association) which has 80 members. They plan to reach out to rural businesses for added membership. Progress in the township included painting parking lines, putting up banners, and forming a steering com- mittee. They have been promoting the merging of stakeholders events, such as the Lions Club's tree lighting ceremony at Lions Park on December 18 with EWAG's food drive and St. John's Anglican Church's Caroling on the Green. Future goals included promoting tourism and forming partnerships with neighbours such as Guelph. The committee has a budget of $12,000 and has so far spent $2,000. Theressa Gibson Smye voiced some objections about the committee. She said that there is no need for two paid councillors to belong (White and McCrae). She also said many meetings have been cancelled with many mem- bers unaware. She said some members expressed frustra- tion with the lack of activity. She asked about ideas that floundered, such as putting up windmills to generate power and income, and a farmers' market. White said the committee decided not to take these ideas forward.
