In the second game, the lead seesawed back and forth between the two teams until the Rebels pulled ahead and MATTHEW'S BAND INTERMISSION: Bantam won 25-21. The Bearcat team came out "in the third game determined to revenge their second game loss. They led off and fin- ished with a 15-13 score. Both teams demonstrated a strong offence with Kirsten Lowe and Jen Wieck lead- ing the way. Jesseca Brake, Jaimi Fellows and Missy Rowley were all instrumental in keeping the Rebel attack in check while Alison Minto and Katy Boychuk rounded out the Acton attack. Melissa Bigg was also instrumental in keeping the play alive with a number of saves at the net in a hard fought competi- tion with both teams evenly matched. The Bearcats can look forward to an exciting season based on their play in this match. Matthews' relentless competitiveness ha "sin bin". --Chuck Tysoe photo s led his team with remarkably two visits to the Atom BB Tanners tie Hespeler, dunk Dundas Fresh off their tournament victory in Wallaceburg, the Atom BB Tanners hosted the Hespeler Shamrocks on Sunday, December it. in an afternoon game of hockey which wound up in a 2-2 tie. The next night the Tanners posted an 8-1 win over Dundas. The scoreboard remained blank until the second period in the game against Hes- peler when Michael Evans put them on the scoreboard. He drilled the puck. in the Shamrock net, on a slick pass from Ryan Dunlevy. The Tanners continued to challenge this top calibre opponent. Hespeler then managed to tie it up. In the third period, Mi- chael Evans fired the rubber in to advance the Atom BB's, this time with TJ Baker setting him up. The Tanners welcomed back Dylan Schouten into the line-up, and the lines of: Bradley Bollert, Carter Ebbinge, Walter Kirkness, Billy Mowat, Evan Oul- ton, Brodie MacFarlane, Matt Fritz and Michael Fatrdla joined with their team-mates, keeping the pressure on offensively and defensively. The Tanners had 23 shots on net, during this ac- tion-packed game. Mason Overland stood his ground between the pipes and the Shamrocks kept him busy with 17 shots. Final score: Acton 2-Hes- peler 2 : Play the Storm On Monday the Tanners travelled to Dundas to play the Dundas Storm and went on a scoring rampage. The Tanners were quickly on the scoreboard when Carter Ebbinge received the puck from Evan Oulton and Walter Kirkness, and found the score zone. The Tanners second goal came at 4:34 when David Bick- ers and Michael Evans shot the puck up to Billy Mowat who beat the Blues goalie. At 3:57, Michael Evans scored the third goal on a clear pass from David Bick- ers. The Tanners closed the first period with another goal at 2:37 when Matt Fritz helped Carter Ebbinge get his second goal of the game and establish a 4-0 lead. Halfway through the sec- ond period Walter Kirkness dazzled the hockey crowd when he made his way past and through the Blues defence, drilling the puck in the Dundas net for an unassisted goal. As 1:99 remained, Kirkness fired in his second goal of the game ona great pass from Carter Ebbinge. The sounds of the mighty Tanners horn echoed throughout the arena. At 8:30 in the third pe- riod, with Dundas players on both sides challenging him on every move, Kirk- ness chalked up a hat trick. The final Tanners goal came at 6:22, when Evan Oulton . beat the Dundas goalie to score, on a clear pass from David Bickers and Michael Fatrdla as the Tanners ham- mered the Dundas Blues goalies with 35 shots on net. Ryan Dunlevy, Bradley Bollert, Dylan Schouten, Brodie MacFarlane and TJ Baker did their part to keep the puck in the Dundas end and to make this game an- other Atom success! Goalie Billy Reid faced only 6 shots on net as the Tanner offence and de- fence shut down the Dundas Blues. _ Final Score: Acton 8- Dundas | The Atom BB Tanners head to Fergus on Satur- day afternoon then host the Guelph Storm on Sunday, December 18, at 12:50. Atom AE Tanners reach semis at Haliburton tourney Acton Atom AE Tanners. travelled to Haliburton last weekend to participate in their Regional Silver Stick Tournament and got to the semi-finals. Tournament organizers had eight teams split into two divisions. The Atom AE Tanners were in the Orr division along with teams from Oro, Belleville, and Stirling. The Tanners' first game was against a strong team from Oro which they won in a very close game, 3 to 2. Tanners goals were scored by Quinn Harding (2) and Kole Simm with assists to lan Thompson (2) and Angus Agnew. Goalie Joshua Karat played well along with solid defence from McNabb, Agnew, Lafrance, Vandereyken and Jean. The forwards also played well with some great back checking from White, Pickering, Corpe, Crossman and Galway. The Tanners second game was against a very strong Belleville team and they lost a9-1 decision. The lone Tan- ner goal came from Drake Andrews with an assist from Stephen White and Kole Simm. Goalie Joe Romh- anyi did his best stopping many of Belleville's shots. The Tanners' third game was against another strong team from Stirling which they beat 3-1. Tanner goals came from Drake Andrews, Quinn Harding and An- drew Lafrance with assists to Stephen White, Kole Simm and lan Thomp- son. Goalie Joshua Karat played another strong game along with his defencemen. The forwards also really helped with strong check- ing and solid hits. The win catapulted the Tan- ners into the semi-finals. The semi-final game was played Sunday morning and the Tanners faced the overall first place team from Napanee. It was a great game. The Tanners kept the game close but lost 2-1. The only Tanner goal came from Andrew Lafrance with an assist from Stephen White. It was a great game with a great finish as the Tanners kept the puck around the Napanee net for the last 5 minutes.
