Office closed Monday The cause of a fire that caused approximately $10,000 damage at North Halton Golf and Country Club Wednesday night is still under investigation, but is believed to be electrical, says a fire department spokesperson. Golf club staff reported the fire about 10:15 p.m. and when firefighters arrived there was heavy smoke in the building. They quickly brought the rapidly growing fire, in a basement electrical room, under control before it spread. The fire department spokesperson credits quick action by both staff at the golf club and firefighters in preventing a catastrophe. General manager of the golf club, Rick Johnson, concurs. "The staff responded very quickly, and so did the fire department," said Johnson. "Due to both of the actions of these groups the building is still here." He added they are very fortunate no one was injured. Smoke traveled throughout the building, so it is expected the damage estimate will rise. --By Lisa Tallyn, staff writer Due to the Civic Holiday (Monday, Aug. 5), garbage pickup next week will take place the day after the regular collection day.
