Time to order CVC offers tree planting service andowners in the Credit River watershed may be eligible to participate in the Credit Valley Conservation's (CVC) Private Landowner Tree Planting Service. Since 1954, CVC has worked with private landowners to achieve their environmental goals and enhance their property by planting trees. CVC assists private landowners with tree planting and offers a variety of services to eligible landowners. Landowners must own a minimum of 0.8 hectares (2.0 acres) within the Credit River watershed. The trees are grown for their naturalization qualities and are available in a variety of sizes, ranging from seedlings through to bare root tall stock. CVC staff assist the landowner plan and implement tree planting projects by visiting the property, helping match trees to the soil, site characteristics and environmental objectives. The staff will develop a planting plan for the site and provide appropriate trees from the correct seed zone. Experienced planters can complete the landowner's project to ensure that the trees are properly stored, handled and planted. Landowners wishing to plant the trees themselves, can place their order and pick the trees up from CVC nursery at Terra Cotta. While the CVC gets lots of repeat business, it always appreciate working with new landowners who have not previously taken advantage of our program. Landowners choosing CVC planting services may be eligible for subsidies on the cost of their planting project. Landowners who plant trees can expect numerous environmental benefits: trees can decrease energy costs; reduce greenhouse gases; enlarge existing woodlots and reforest poor farmlands; provide shade in summer and increase wildlife habitat while attracting more wildlife and improve outdoor recreation opportunities. Reforestation is also a way to retire fragile land and decrease erosion.
