High school roundup Continued from pg. 20 Ashley Nixon and Kirsten Lowe shutting down a number of hits from Forest Heights with strong blocks, Acton held on 25-23 in the second game to win the match. Classified as an AA centre, Acton took on AAAA Birchmount in the championship and things looked promising early on, with some scoring serves by Missy Rowley and kills by Katy Boychuk and Alison Minto. But Bearcat coach Joyce Finley said the "quick" game of Birchmount proved to be too much and Acton settled for silver with game results of 23-25, 23-25. In junior girls' league play this week, Christ the King rallied to beat Acton 8-25, 25-18, 15-10. Milton's E.C. Drury then downed the junior Bearcats on Wednesday 25-20, 25-17. Basketball Georgetown's Christ the King Jaguars took both games from the guest Acton Bearcats in a Halton league hoops matchup on Monday afternoon. Steve Ples dropped in 18 points for the senior Jags in their 61-37 victory over Acton, with Seb Mena scoring 15 for the visitors. In the junior game, Christ the King prevailed 64-34. No individual scorers were available. Centre Adam Grove had 13 points for the senior Bearcats in a 57-42 loss to E.C. Drury on Wednesday. Hockey The Acton Bearcat girls' team went 3-1 at the Cardinal Carter Classic tournament in Toronto this week, with a 3-2 loss to St. Robert of Thornhill preventing them from appearing in the championship game for the D Division. Preliminary round-- St. Robert 3, Acton 2: Monique Lalande, Amanda Schroeder (G); Gabby Kosziwka, Kaitlyn Andrews (A). Acton 4, Malvern (Toronto) 1: Kosziwka (3G, A), Hayley Halls (G, A); Jocelyn Bell (3A). Acton 6, Jackson (Kanata) 0: Kosziwka (4G, A), Andrews, Amanda Schroeder (G); Megan Evans (2A); Amy De La Franier (SO). Acton 1, St. Charles (Sudbury) 0: Halls (G); Kosziwka, De La Franier (A); De La Franier (SO). Eight is enough Two very rare "eight-enders" have taken place this season in the North Halton Golf & Country Club's curling leagues and the most recent was swept up during Day Ladies' action. Pictured above with their perfect end are, from left: Mary Wands, Barb Abray, Sharon Dunlop and Gerrie Dryden. Another eight-ender was recorded by the rink consisting of Al Moore, Mitch Jewell and Dave Robinson back in November. Submitted photo
