Moving towards a fully integrated service our Halton Regional Police Service continues to grow and evolve to address our growing and diversified community. Policing is moving from the model of reactive policing towards a fully integrated police service. A fully integrated service promotes active community involvement in crime prevention initiatives, and also provides police officers with specialized areas of responsibilities. An example of this is the new position of 1 District Seniors Investigator now filled by Detective Constable K. Daunter. Det./Const. Daunter works hand-in-hand with the 1 District Criminal Investigations Bureau. How does this help our senior population you ask? A front line police officer takes an initial report or complaint of a crime against a senior. The investigation is 911/ 411 Const. Chris Borak either completed by that officer, or in corroboration with the Criminal Investigation Bureau. It is Det./Const. Daunter's role to review reports of crimes against seniors within our community and take over investigations that are more lengthy and complex in nature, or investigations that require a more experienced and trained investigator. Det./Const. Daunter will also be able to make your Community Support Officer aware of crime patterns or trends within the senior community, which can then be addressed through crime prevention initiatives such as S.A.L.T. (Seniors and Law-Enforcement Together). S.A.L.T. is an excellent community resource where community volunteers make crime prevention presentations to seniors in hopes of reducing crime rates and improving quality of life. Contact me personally for crime prevention tips, or information regarding community concerns through 905-878-5511 ext. 2470, or by e-mailing chris.borak@hrps.on.ca. Please reserve the 911 system for emergency calls only. --Const. Chris Borak is the Community Support Officer for District 1
