OPEN HOUSE The Irish Descendants to descend on Manny's for a toe-tapping Friday concert The Irish Descendants will be at Manny's Roadhouse in Acton on Friday, March 24 as part of a tour that began in Maple Ridge, British Columbia on St. Patrick's Day, March 17 and ends in Calgary on April 30th. Since forming in 1990, the Newfoundland band has cultivated a following all round the world. Music ranges from ballads to high energy toe-tapping reels. Band members are Con O'Brien, lead vocals, guitar; Glenn Hiscock, fiddle, banjo, mandolin, vocals; Paul Hiscock, bass guitar, vocals; Mike Hanrahan, banjo, bouzouki, mandolin, guitar, vocals and Graham Wells, accordian, tin whistle, vocals. The Irish Descendants have performed throughout the U.S. and Canada including prestigious venues such as the Boston St. Patrick's Day celebrations, Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra, Calgary Symphony Orchestra, The Smithsonian in Washington and others. The first album in 1991, Misty Morning Shore, presented an opportunity for the band to jump from pub circuit phenoms to radio stars and reach a much wider audience. That led to 1993's major label debut on Warner Music, Look To The Sea, was recorded in Toronto with Irish expatriate Derek Harrington. After winning the 1996 East Coast Music Award for "East Coast Music Entertainers Of The Year", the band was presented with a Gold Album for Look To The Sea. Just a few weeks later, The Irish Descendants were presented with the Juno Award for "Best Roots/Traditional Album" for Gypsies & Lovers. Other albums include Livin' On The Edge, Blooming Bright Star, and a Christmas album, The Gift. The year 2004 marked a new chapter in the band's 14-year history. They are now signed to the prestigious New York-based Kells Music label. Kells released a new compilation album We are The Irish Descendants, and followed it with the Kells-produced Across the Water, a brand new 15-song CD that that immediately cruised to the top of the North American Irish music charts. Please join us in the celebration of JOHN LIGHTLE of Acton's RETIREMENT PARTY to be held at the Acton Curling Club, Sat. April 15 from 2 to 4 pm. Best wishes only.
