Programs to teach kids social and recreational skills Halton Hills Recreation and Parks Department is offering a number of spring programs designed especially for children, from preschoolers to teens, to aid in developing skills. DASH Sports A Recreation and Parks program offered in partnership with DASH Sports that will introduce 2-7 year olds to a variety of sports both team and individual beginning on April 5. The program is offered at the Acton Community Centre (on Wednesdays) or the Gellert Community Centre (Wednesdays or Thursdays). DASH will lay the foundation for success in sports by developing the fundamental skills and the basic movements such as running, jumping, throwing and catching. Gym & Swim Gym & Swim for ages 1-3 and their parents will be held at the Gellert Community Centre, April 6 to June 8. This is two activities for you and your child in one class, 9:30-11 a.m. Start with active play in the hall and then finish the class with a recreational swim in the pool. Kung Fu Kung Fu - Martial Arts will be offered at the Gellert Community Centre, Wednesdays, 6:30-7:30 p.m. starting April 5. This recreation program for ages 7-16 is a great intro to martial arts. This noncontact Kung Fu program will teach footwork, stance, kicking and striking and is an excellent way to improve discipline and fitness. No experience, uniform or special equipment is needed. The instructor is a school vice principal, a black belt in Judo, member of Hong Kong Kung Fu demo team. Saturday Fun Club Saturday Fun Club is an opportunity for your little person to meet other children, socialize and have fun. All children 3-5 years are invited to Recreation and Parks program at the Gellert Community Centre on Saturdays, 9:30-11 a.m. for fun filled games, crafts sing songs and story time. Art Adventures Explore the world of arts and crafts at the Recreation and Parks Department's Art Adventures in Acton and Georgetown beginning in April.
