GMHA declares champs Late marker lifts Coyotes to Minor Novice crown Matt Laxton's second goal of the game with just 1:53 left in the third period gave the Armstrong Insurance Coyotes a 4-3 win over the DeCourcy Steel Blackhawks in Saturday's Georgetown Minor Hockey Association (GMHA) minor novice championship game. The GMHA held its house league weekend of champions this past weekend, declaring winners in all divisions. Andrew Ralston and Jocelyn Trisil also scored for the Coyotes and Spencer Swartz added two assists. Adam Smith, with two goals, and Ryan Davies replied for the Hawks. Josh Witten were the difference as the Marketplace Dental Centre Red Wings defeated the CPI Flyers 1-0. Atom White Sam Wight scored twice in the final three minutes, including the winner with just two seconds remaining in regulation time, in the Bryan Lewis Family Canadiens' 4-3 triumph over the Jones & Son Blackhawks. Jake Besworth and Nick Castle also tallied for the champs, with Kris O'Neil, Chris Roach and Tyler Desjardins netting third-period goals for the Blackhawks. Minor Peewee Smitty's Red Wings received an overtime goal from Michael Mazze to complete a 3-2 comeback victory on Sunday against the Bratin Auto Bruins. Connor Rogers had both Red Wing goals in regulation and goalie Matthew Seal was named MVP. Andrew Goddard and Jamey Allison scored for the Bruins and goalie Sean Kendrick was their MVP. Major Novice Mike Goddard had two goals and two assists for Danny's Auto Collision Canadiens in their 5-1 victory over the Bernia of Canada Bruins on Saturday. Tyler Amaral, Brock Haynes and Alex Devos added single markers to the winning cause. Nicholas Corrado opened the scoring for the Bruins. Junior Tyke After the Bruins jumped out to a 50 lead on the two-goal performance by Cameron Cherwaiko, Justin Knebel scored four times in the final 10 minutes to pull the Blackhawks to within a goal. In the final 15 seconds, Knebel was stopped on a breakaway by Bruins' goalie Brandon Alves to preserve the 5-4 championship victory for the Bruins. Nick Samis, Jackson Gates and Dawson Lirette added single markers for the Bruins. Peewee In the peewee final, Matthew Aversa, Chris Weber and Nicholas Kinney suppled the goal scoring for the Overhead Door Company Blackhawks in their 3-1 win over Wells Fargo Financial Canadiens on Saturday. Anthony Luciani was named MVP for the winning side. Incredibly, eight out of the 10 Gold Medal games in the Georgetown Minor Hockey Association's Weekend of Champs were decided by one goal and the minor novice final contest pictured above between the DeCourcy Steel Blackhawks (white) and the Armstrong Insurance Coyotes wasn't decided until the last minute as well. Ryan Jenkins had the other goal for the winning side. Brad Dilks had tied the score for the Kinsmen late in the third period. Senior Tyke The Johnson and Associates Flyers and the Rainbow Trophies Maple Leafs traded leads in their thrilling final game, and with the score tied 44, it came down to a breakaway goal by sniper Billy Taylor with less than a minute to play to give the Flyers a 5-4 victory. Taylor finished with four goals and Cameron MacLeod rounded out the scoring. Trevor Haines, with two, Ryan Waddick and Jeremy Roach tallied for Rainbow Trophies. Midget/Juvenile Georgetown Chrysler held off a late charge by Power Water to prevail by a 5-4 score on Sunday in the championship game. Sean Taylor, Keith Ward, Dustin Clarke, Kevin Bolton and Stephen Shearer scored for Georgetown Chrysler.
