Jags tops at York tourney Georgetown's Christ the King Jaguars enjoyed their first winning season in four years of junior boys' hockey at the school, capturing the B Division championship at the Ice Gardens tournament at York University. The Jaguars defeated St. Paul's of Mississauga, Unionville and Burlington's Robert Bateman in the preliminary round, then downed Unionville again 5-2 in the final game. Cameron Flint, Liam Heelis and Andrew Berlingieri led the CTK offence. Goalies Craig Rylett and John Forcier, along with defender D.J. MacNeil, helped keep the Jaguars' goals against down. Christ the King's season came to an end on last week, however, at the Burlington Cup tourney. The Jags tied T.A. Blakelock 4-4, with losses to Holy Trinity (3-2) and Bishop Reding (3-2) knocking them out of contention. TRACK & FIELD: Athletes from Acton High School posted several top-10 results at an indoor track & field meet held at York University last week. Kaitlyn Andrews broke the meet record for the senior girls' shot put with a toss of 13.82 metres to take top spot. Jaimi Fellows of Acton placed third in the senior girls' high jump at 1.40 metres, while teammate Cameron Shortt finished fourth in the midget boys' 1,500 metres in 4:49.06 and fifth in the junior boys' 3,000 metres in 10:22.51. Matt Bigg ran to a sixth-place finish in the junior boys' 3,000 metres and was ninth in the 1,500. Daniel Kearns finished 10th in the senior boys' shot put with a toss that was good enough to break an Acton school record. Moroney a high roller Teenage ten-pin bowler Katie Moroney of Georgetown recently placed sixth in the junior girls' division (12-14 yrs.) at the provincial championships held at Prime Time Bowl in Burlington. The Christ the King student first rolled six regulation games and after qualifying in the top eight overall, the format switched to seven games of match play. The 15-year-old Moroney has been based out of Brunswick Bramalea for the past nine years and carries a 170 average. She also tried out for Team Ontario in the open girls' category (21 yrs. & under), finishing 11th.
