Buzz too much (again) for Bulldogs EAMONN MAHER Staff Writer Despite playing two good periods against the undefeated Oakville Buzz, the host Halton Hills Bulldogs again found themselves on the short end of an 8-4 scoreline against their OLA Jr. B lacrosse foes on Sunday evening. The Bulldogs lost all four games of the regular-season series to the 18-0 Buzz and two of those contests were decided in the final minute. Oakville also swept Halton Hills out of last season's second round of playoffs and 'Dogs' captain Travis Bland is tired of just scoring moral victories against the Buzz. "We played them well in certain parts of the game but it's still frustrating that we can't get rid of that 10-minute lapse that kills us," said Bland. "We know we can beat them and everyone wants to get another shot at it in the playoffs." With rookie Michael Cregan starting in goal on Sunday in place of the TRAVIS injured Kyle Kennery, BLAND Halton Hills jumped out to a 2-1 first-period lead on goals by Cameron Flint and Graham Knoepfli, but undisciplined penalties, including two unsportsmanlike conduct minors, led to three Oakville power-play goals in quick succession. The Buzz led 8-3 after 40 minutes and although the result was never in doubt, Cregan earned player-of-the game honours for shutting down top Buzz scorers Josh Smyth and Brenden Thenhaus and keeping a clean sheet in the final frame. In the Mite girls' (Grades 1-2) 100m dash, three Georgetown Thunderbolts, Riel Flack, Chelsea Dixon and Abby McEachran qualified for the final. Flack won the gold medal in a time of 16.20 seconds. Morgan-Flack continued her winning ways in the Mite Long Jump winning gold there too, in a leading leap of 2.88m. Dixon and McEachran finished fourth and fifth, respectively. In the Tyke boys' (Grades 3-4) long jump, Coltin McCaughan placed seventh overall. Hailey Buist placed fourth out of 16 athletes in the Tyke girls' 800m, missing the bronze by merely three seconds She also finished sixth in the long jump. For the Atom boys (Grades 5-6), Sam McEacheran took home the bronze medal in long jump and ran a personal best of 1:16.80 in the 400m. Abbey Young placed seventh in the 800m Atom girls' final, while Courtney Chambers also made the final in the Atom girls' 100m dash, in which she ran a PB of 14.50. Marie in the championship game sewed up the tournament title for Georgetown Feet In Motion Mustangs in the under-12 girls' division at the recent Barrie Spiritfest event. In the preliminary round, Georgetown beat Barrie Spirit B and North Dumfries of the Cambridge area and lost to Etobicoke, then downed Barrie Spirit A in the semi-finals.
