Duffers wanted: Golf tourney to aid youth centres Halton Hills Community Support and Information is still looking for golfers to participate in its third annual golf tournament to aid Off the Wall Youth Centre in Acton and Open Door Youth Centre in Georgetown. The tournament will be held this Saturday, July 8 at Acton Meadows, with a 7 a.m. start. The cost is $85 per person/teams of four. The fee includes 18 holes of golf, golf cart (two per cart) and steak or chicken barbecue dinner. It includes prizes and silent auction. For more information, or to register, call Amanda Kostjuk or Amanda Byers, 519-853-9825. The youth centres provide a safe and professionally supervised environment for youth, ages 9-19. The monthly program calendar changes to offer a variety of activities designed to help kids cope, grow and achieve. Resources available at the centres include pool tables, ping-pong table, supervised Internet accessible computers, television and VCR for age appropriate movies, foosball tables, video games and crafts. Specially trained youth workers offer guidance and problem-solving strategies for many of the issues youths are faced with today. They are also a direct link to community resources available to youth when extra help is needed or for volunteering opportunities. "Our goal through the youth centre experience is to help kids to become leaders, take responsibility for themselves and their actions, learn effective problem solving/communication skills and become active members in our community," say youth centre co-ordinator Claire Langridge and youth workers Amanda Kostjuk and Amanda Byers.
