Community continues fight against cancer Grade 4 Park Public School student Ruby Coles shows off her braided ponytail that will be donated to the Child's Voice Charity, after she had her hair cut off at school, raising $2,942.13 to aid The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. Ruby decided to take on her fundraising venture in honour of her grandmother Jean Coles, who is a breast cancer survivor. The pledges were collected from parents, students, and at the downtown market. Ruby hopes, when all the pledges are in, the total will top $3,200. Accepting the cheque at a school assembly was Erin Lalonde of The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (right) along with Park School principal Kathy Clarke. Cancer Assistance Services of Halton Hills (CAS-hh) will be selling tickets for the next year-and-a-half to raffle off a quilt, donated by the Halton Hills Quilters Guild. On hand to make the presentation were (from left) Kaitlyn Kiaer and Sheila Smith of CAS-hh, and Joan Lovegrove and Pat Clayton of the Quilters' Guild. Lovegrove and Clayton, along with Carol Cunningham, spent two years creating the quilt. Tickets are available at the CAS-hh office located at 222 Mountainview Road North, or by calling 905-7028886. The draw will be made December, 2007. Jennifer McVicar, 16, of Georgetown was one of seven people-- members of the Norval United Church Youth Group-- who had cut their hair on a mass cutting day, which was then donated to Angel Hair for Kids. That group makes wigs for kids who have lost their hair to cancer. Christine Zilio of Anna Christine had the snipping honour. The youth group also raised almost $4,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society's Relay for Life event held in Mississauga.
