4 Acton/Georgetown, Friday, July 28, 2006 NEWS AND INFORMATION FROM GEORGETOWN HOSPITAL New Halton Healthcare Services Chief of Staff The Board of Directors of Halton Healthcare Services (HHS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Lorne Martin as Halton Healthcare Services' Chief of Medical Staff, effective September 1, 2006. Dr. Martin will be replacing Dr. Sol Stern, who announced his intention to step down in January 2006. Dr. Martin was Halton Healthcare's Chief of Staff from 1994 to 2001 and is currently the Medical Director of Emergency Services at Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH). Dr. Martin will continue in this position during his tenure as Chief of Staff. Dr. Martin joined the active medical staff of the Department of Family Medicine at OTMH in 1983. He became Medical Director of Emergency Services in 1992, and was appointed Chief of Staff of OTMH in 1994. In 1998, following the amalgamation of OTMH and Milton District Hospital Dr. Martin was appointed Halton Healthcare Services' first Chief of Staff. In that role he led the amalgamation of two distinct medical staffs. "It is a very exciting time for Halton Healthcare now that our reach has been extended in the Halton Region with the transfer of Georgetown Hospital. Responding to the unprecedented growth of our communities is definitely one of our major challenges," explains Dr. Martin. "I'd like to see HHS continue to build on the existing excellent working relationships, and function as one cohesive organization to expand services and maximize the quality of care for the region. However, I think each hospital should be supported in maintaining their unique culture throughout this process; it enhances our ability to provide the best possible care to our patients." Dr. Martin will be working with Dr. Stern to ensure a smooth transition during the summer. Volunteering at Georgetown Hospital Looking for a new challenge in the Fall? Interested in volunteering? Capital Equipment Needs at Georgetown Hospital Every year the staff and medical staff develop a list of new and replacement equipment and renovations for the upcoming year. This list is called the Capital Equipment List. The initial list is, as expected, quite lengthy. Through a very comprehensive process, management, staff and medical staff review and revise the list with a critical eye. The Capital Equipment List for Georgetown Hospital for the 2006/07 fiscal year totals $590,872 and includes items as expensive as the telemetry upgrade required for the Closed Observation Unit at $85,000 and as little as an IV Infusion pump costing $1,418.
