Storytelling on the move Last month, Statistics Canada issued a report about the amount of time Canadians spend commuting between home and work each day. People commuting to Toronto came out at the top of the list with an average of 79 minutes, round-trip. Though anyone who has ever commuted to Toronto from Halton Hills would probably say, "Ha! That's nothing!" For us a two to three-hour daily commute is quite the norm. Making good use of commuting time can be quite a challenge. Catching up on sleep or reading is great if you are taking the train, but what if you are stuck in a car? Well, how about audio books? Listening to a gripping story can be a terrific way to take your mind off rush-hour traffic. Here at the Halton Hills Public Library there are plenty of audio books (on CD and cassette tape) for you to borrow. Below are some new titles that will be appearing on library shelves in the next week or two. Proof Positive by Phillip Margolin: When defense attorney Doug Weaver links two seemingly unrelated murder cases, more murders start to happen. The Wrong Hostage by Elizabeth Lowell: Judge Grace Silva must depend upon political outcast Joe Faroe when a violent killer kidnaps her son. The Husband by Dean Koontz: "We have your wife. You can get her back for 2 million-cash." What would you do if you received this call? Hit Parade by Lawrence Block Keller: A veteran hit man is considering retiring from the business, but only if he can take on enough assignments to afford it. Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden: An impoverished nine-year-old is sold to a geisha house and is flung into a world of beauty, art, greed and jealousy. Cold Mountain by Charles Frazier: Confederate soldier Inman treks back to his home in the Blue Ridge Mountains while his wife, Ada, battles to keep their homestead. Don't forget that when it comes to audio books, we also have non-fiction titles too. This means your commuting time can be spent learning a new language, enjoying a fascinating biography, or uncovering the latest scientific discovery.
