Garage, car destroyed in Friday fire Halton Hills firefighters were called to a Munro Circle home in Georgetown Friday night after the residents smelled smoke inside their home and noticed smoke coming from the garage. When firefighters arrived at approximately 10:20 p.m. there was extensive smoke and extreme temperatures coming from behind the closed garage door. After forcing open the garage door firefighters found the engine compartment and part of the seating area of a 1996 Chrysler Neon were on fire. Firefighters did a quick initial attack to slow the spread of the blaze in the vehicle and the garage allowing them to be able to drag the car out into the driveway using the winch system on the department's heavy rescue unit. They then extinguished the fire in the car and the garage. Halton Hills Hydro also responded to shut off the hydro to the home as a precaution. However the contents of the garage, and the car, were destroyed. Damage is estimated at $35,000. An electrical shortage in the Neon's engine compartment is the suspected cause.
