Celebrating the Arts Get a behind-the-scenes peek at the JET The Halton Hills Library & Cultural Centre marks its silver anniversary this month with a nine-day celebration of the arts-- Celebrating Silver ... Going for Gold-- that will occur between Friday, October 13 and Sunday, October 22. The Opening Night Theatre Tour on Friday, October 13, 7-8 p.m. provides an opportunity for the public to take a guided "behind-thescenes" tour for a look at the production of a theatrical presentation at the John Elliott Theatre. While this tour is free to the public, tickets will be required for the 50-minute tour. Georgetown Globe Productions members will walk you through the different aspects of putting on a performance. Starting with a presentation and an informative tour of the John Elliott Theatre-- go on the stage, through the wings and downstairs, where members will demonstrate their techniques with costumes, millinery, hair designs, make-up, sound and sets. Following the tour, join members of both the Georgetown Little Theatre and Georgetown's Globe Musical Productions for The Past and Future-- All The World's a Stage and the JET is Yours. This evening of music, song, dance and comedy starts at 8 p.m. This will be the first time that members of both groups will take the stage together. Again tickets are free, but required. Georgetown Little Theatre will perform an adaptation of excerpts from Not Now Darling incorporating problems that may occur during a dress rehearsal. Not Now Darling by Ray Cooney and John Chapman was the first play presented at what was the brand new John Elliott Theatre in 1981. Needless to say, things do not always go according to plan, but they carry on, knowing as they do that "it'll be alright on the night." Georgetown Globe Musical Productions's part in the program will consist of short excerpts from the shows featured in its upcoming season, Urinetown, The War Show and Oliver!, as well as numbers from past shows which have delighted audiences over the years. These will give opportunities for Globe's large contingent of young people to strut their stuff along with many more seasoned performers who have appeared in the group's musical productions. With so many blockbuster musicals to draw from, the audience can be assured of a medley of song and dance that will set toes tapping. The evening will end with refreshments served in the Gallery and give the audience a chance to mingle with the performers and learn more about Halton Hills' community theatres. In the Gallery is the art exhibition The Many Faces of Halton Hills, featuring art works depicting our Halton Hills community. The theme of the exhibition is Halton Hills, its people, settlements, landscapes, valleys, its wildlife, historic buildings, roadways and railways. Artists and artisans have been invited to enter one or two works for the themed art show. All artwork will be for sale with the proceeds going directly to the artists.
