Mr. Edward Poulton talked to the students about his childhood in Manchester, England during the Second World War. His stories provided students with an insight into the difficulties children face during wartime. Centennial's co-ed flag football team traveled to North Burlington and competed against 19 other teams from Halton Board. The Chargers survived sub-zero temperatures and six grueling games to win the Kilbride Cup. Centennial earned a birth in the Reebok NFL/CFL Flag Football Regional Tournament at Mohawk Stadium where they finished in the top ten. Centennial School news Centennial's boys' and girls' volleyball teams recently participated in the Provincial Cup Tournament in Oakville. After playing an action-packed two-day tournament, facing teams from all over Ontario, Centennial's girls' team placed in the final four and our boys' team won the consolation finals. October was a very active fundraising month. Centennial participated in a Breast Cancer Awareness Dance and raised $1,000. Students didn't stop there; they also raised approximately $1,600 for UNICEF that will go towards helping children in Malawi, Africa. Centennial is proud to help its community and will continue its fundraising efforts throughout the year. A Grade 10 student, Jolly co-coached the Bearcats' junior boys' volleyball team that showed steady improvement through the season. Ethier plays the Libero position for Acton's senior boys, who are in Dryden this weekend for the OFSAAAA volleyball championships. Georgetown District High School Athletes of the Week are Brad Richards and Spencer Troop. Richards is the middle hitter on the senior Rebel volleyball squad that qualified as the eighth seed for this week's OFSAA AAAA tournament in Barrie. Troop came back from a knee injury early in the season to bolster Georgetown's linebacking core and make it to the Rebels' first appearance in the Halton football final in 30 years. Christ the King High School Athletes of the Week are Kenzie Carpenter and Elliott Montag. Carpenter, a Grade 10 student who usually plays defence, scored two goals in a game as the Jaguars went 2-1 at the Holy Trinity pre-season girls' varsity hockey tournament. At 6-foot-2 and 235 pounds for a Grade 10 student, Montag attracted the attention of Ontario university scouts for his play at both right guard and defensive tackle, registering a sack against Georgetown in CtK's Halton Division II senior football title victory.
