Georgetown Choral Society promises two evenings of Christmas Pops! The Georgetown Choral Society (GCS) brings An Evening at Pops! flare to their upcoming Christmas concert entitled Christmas Pops! Christmas Pops! will be held at the Georgetown District High School on Friday, December 8, 8 p.m., doors open at 7:30 p.m. and on Saturday, December 9, 7:30 p.m., doors open at 7 p.m. Growing up you probably remember watching the famous PBS Christmas specials featuring the Boston Pops orchestra and choir. It has been one of the longest running programs, gracing audiences since 1969. Ironically, close to the same amount of time GCS has been delighting audiences in our community. This concert will feature our longstanding accompanist Christopher Dawes, organist and we are very pleased to be sharing the stage with our very own Georgetown District High School Jazz band. We'd like to share that in December of 1971 Choral Society performed their Christmas concert, Voices & Brass with the GDHS Band. A jam session with Charles Crimes, at that time conductor for GCS, was a highlight in the performance. It's great to see that after all these years GDHS and GCS continue to produce talented musicians and high quality music in Halton Hills! Our Accompanist Dawes, a Georgetown resident, is numbered among Canada's leading church musicians, concert organists and choral accompanists. He has given concerts in all of Canada's major cities, and has Canada's Summer Institute of Church Music in Whitby. He has worked with GCS for over 15 years and has also joined the choir for their concert performances abroad. Our guest performers The GDHS Jazz Band, has achieved Gold Standard for three consecutive years at the National Music Fest Competitions in Montreal (2004), Vancouver (2005), and most recently in Ottawa (2006). The band has performed at many community events such as the Tsunami Relief Concert, the Halton District School Board Gala Fundraiser and at many local church services. The group is conducted by the Head of Arts at GDHS, Eleanor Wallace. Also joining the band for this performance are select members of the GDHS Wind Ensemble. Ticket prices are $20 adults and $15 for ages 16 and under. With the versatility of sound between organ, voice and band combined, the musical selections will range from contemporary Christmas to swinging jingling jazz and will leave the audience with An Evening at Pops! feel. In keeping with a traditional Christmas celebration, watch out for a very special visitor who will be dropping by throughout the evening, we'll let you guess who! Come out with your family and friends and join us for a wonderful evening of Christmas....we guarantee your toes will be tapping all the way home! --Georgetown Choral Society toured, and been recorded and broadcast in the United States and Europe. Dawes is involved in music and dramatic programs with the University of Toronto, graduate studies in Music Criticism at McMaster University, Directorship of the Organ Concerts and Academy at Stratford Summer Music and
