Acton Seniors to view lights Tuesday, play euchre Wednesday JULIE CONROY Acton Seniors Centre The Christmas dinner was a sell out and everyone agreed the Christmas dinner catered by M&J Catering from Eden Mills was delicious. The door prizes were won by Annie Leslie, Lloyd Broostad, Sisko Kockx, Betty Footitt, Pat Stark, Rona Thornhill, Mary Walsma, Cecile Tremblay. Cecile also won the 50/50. As usual, the board members helped with the dinner by setting up and clearing away the dishes. The board members always help at two dinners during the year to give the social committee a break and enable them to enjoy the dinners without any distractions. The Monday morning craft group made decorations for all the tables and little party favours for everyone. Everything looked very festive. Santa paid a surprise visit with his helper Elf Trina Noel and the beautiful singing of the choir from St. John's Anglican Church in Rockwood made a fitting finale to the day. It was luckily a P.D. Day in Halton, which meant we were able to have five high school students help us with the serving and clean up: Erin Bailie, Dylan Jubinville, Chantel Foley, Sarah Nietlispach, and Connor Thurston. The hampers we are filling for the two families in Acton who need a little help this year are looking wonderful. Everyone has been very generous, especially two local businesses, Giant Tiger and Achilles Motors, plus Canadian Tire in Georgetown. If you were meaning to add to the hampers there is still time. The deadline for donations is today (Friday Dec. 15). If you have a question, either Joanne Bissonette or Alice Clarke will be happy to help you. The travel desk is planning a trip to Niagara Casino on January 4, if there is enough interest. There is a sign up sheet at the front desk. There will be no trip to Rama in December as the next one will be Wednesday, Jan. 31. The winners from the Nov. 30 trip were Sylvia Fisher, 50/50, Bonnie Dunn, birthday prize, and Pat Caruso, Joyce Tilson, Isabel Nicholls, Wilda Tressel, Marie Prueter, Jean Sikes and Grant Greenaway, lucky seats. There is still time to add your name to the list of people wishing to enjoy the music, exercise, and fun of square dancing. The first class will be on Tuesday, Jan. 9, 10 a.m. to noon-- if there is enough interest. We had our last week of line dancing this week, and I am looking forward to showing off my new skills (if I can remember the steps when the music starts). We are looking forward to our second session in the new year. I have it on good authority, there will be Evening Euchre on Wednesday, Dec. 20 at 7:15 p.m. Most people are busy getting ready for Christmas by then, but avid euchre players can always find time to play. There is still time for you to add your name for the Annual Christmas Lights Tour on Tuesday, Dec. 21. All seniors, 65 years of age or older who live in the Acton area are welcome. The buses will pick up at the Elizabeth St. apartments at 6:30 p.m.; Birchway Apartments, 6:40 p.m. and Church and Maria St. apartments 6:50 p.m. and finally the Seniors Centre at 7 p.m. In addition to the two regular buses there will be a wheelchair accessible bus for any handicapped person and their caregivers. When the buses return to the centre there will be goodies and hot drinks. Pat Frizzell asked me to mention that the Good Food Boxes will be delivered a week later, starting in January. The Acton Seniors Centre will close at 4 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 22 and re-open on Tuesday, Jan. 2 at 9 a.m.
