Rebels host Indiana team ATHLETES of the Week CHRIST THE KING ACTON GEORGETOWN DISTRICT DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL HIGH SCHOOL New m oo showr A high school from Mishawaka, Indiana will send a couple of its boys' basketball teams to Georgetown to face the hometown Rebels this weekend for the annual friendly exhibition games between the two communities. Last year, the teams met in the Hoosier state but it's the Rebels' turn to host in 2007. Mishawaka players will billet with their Canuck counterparts during their stay, which includes a team function today (Friday) and a couple of games on Saturday afternoon. The junior matchup is set for 12:30 p.m. Saturday at GDHS, with the seniors to follow at 2 p.m. Last weekend, the senior Rebels took part in an elite-level tournament at St. Michael's College in Toronto and were matched up against Canada's top-ranked high school squad from Toronto's Henry Carr in their opening game. Despite an undefeated Halton league mark of 8-0 and an overall record of 19-3 this season heading into the contest, the Rebels were humbled by the eventual tourney champs 72-31. Dalton Olinoski led Georgetown with 14 points. Coach Steve Pettit's team rebounded with a 43-38 upset of the Northern Redmen as Olinoski dropped in 21 points to win in overtime. Gavin Viray-Cox scored 17 points for Georgetown's seniors in the consolation final but poor shooting resulted in a 54-45 loss to Vaughan. After exams, the Rebels will play at a tournament in Hamilton Feb. 2-3. Jessica Mink Sarah Glassford Mackenzie Kimm Acton High School Athletes of the Week are Brendon Bennett and Sarah Glassford. Bennett, a shooting guard on the junior Bearcats basketball team was chosen for his strong offensive play, as well as scoring against MDHS. Glassford, the captain and power of the Bearcats junior volleyball team, was selected for her good serving and hitting against ECD. Georgetown District High School Athletes of the Week are Mackenzie Kimm and Kyle Cresswick. Kimm, a member of the Rebels swim team as cited for finishing in the top 10 at the University of Guelph meet, in the 100 breast stroke and 100 back stroke events. Cresswick, also a member of the Rebels swim team, was recognized for achieving his personal best of 37.3 seconds in the 50 breast stroke. Christ the King Athletes of the Week are Ben Flikkema and Jessica Mink. Flikkema, a guard on the Jaguars senior basketball team, was selected for his strong game against GDHS where he scored 12 points. Mick, a middle on the Jaguars junior volleyball team, was chosen for her strong net play and hitting against BR.
