Krysa to fight in Halifax March 31 Continued from pg. 1 be entering a hostile environment for his Extreme Cage Combat 5 Canadian title fight March 31 in Halifax against hometown boy Jason MacKay, who also sports a 4-0 record. "It's a good step-up fight for Shaun. It gives him an opportunity to showcase for something bigger down the road," said Chris Boreland, Krysa's coach and former competitive fighter. "If you've got a Canadian championship, they like to give him a chance to defend it and then they might give him a world title shot, so he'd be fighting an international fighter of some recognition. He still has to win his fights first to get good opportunities from the bigger organizations, but hopefully soon we'll have a UFC competitor all the way from Georgetown." Krysa has a multi-fight contract with APEX Championship Fighting and MacKay stands in the way of Krysa's goal of getting recruited by the two big MMA organizations, UFC and Pride Fighting, for much bigger paydays and exposure. "You have to live your dream, right?" the GDHS grad added. "Everyone goes to school and does their thing and I'd bet about half of them don't get to achieve their goals in life, in the end settling for whatever they feel like doing. It took a lot of sleepless nights but I decided this is what I'm going to do. If it doesn't work out I can always go back to sales if I have to, but for the next year I'm going to go for it." Also scheduled to be on the Halifax card from the Boreland gym are local residents Stjepan Vujnovic and Ray Penney.
