Acton Seniors Centre to `look to the future' at the AGM JULIE CONROY Acton Seniors Centre Hopefully there will be a good turnout of members for the annual general meeting on Tuesday, February 27 at 1 p.m. There will be reports on activities during the past year. If you are wondering what "Looking to the Future" means, now is the time to find out. There will be an election of officers. You have to be a member to vote, but the meeting is open to anyone who might be interested. If you haven't renewed your membership yet, or are planning to join the centre, please do so before the AGM. The front desk is very busy on that day. It is important you attend to show your support. Following the meeting there will be refreshments. *** A change of date! The March Birthday Tea has been changed to March 6, so it is incorrect in the latest newsletter. This is for everyone celebrating a birthday during February or March. *** Thinking of newsletters, there are still quite a few waiting to be picked up. If you see a neighbour's please deliver it to them. Not everyone can get out during the colder months, but they like to know what is happening at the centre. *** Is anyone interested in a trip to St. Lawrence Market in April? If you are, give me a call at 519-8532063. If we should go, we will take a bus, so we need at least 20 people. We are planning a tour of the Toyota car plant in Cambridge on Tuesday, May 1st in the afternoon. There is only space for 18 people. If there is enough interest we might make it a full day and stop at Wings of Paradise and Greenway Garden Centre. They specialize in growing plants that attract butterflies. There are signup sheets at the front desk for both the Toyota trip and an evening trip to Sleeman's Brewery in Guelph. *** The cookery class, Food for Fun, will be held on February 20 at 1 p.m. If you are interested sign up on the appropriate sheet. *** The art class has restarted and Maria Sallay the art instructor is now using the wireless mike and overhead mirror, which enables her students to see what she is doing without having to crowd around her to see her. Anyone who knows Maria knows she is very soft spoken, so the mike really helps. Thank you to the Acton legion for their generous donation that made this possible. *** At Bid Euchre last Thursday, Mae Milton was still on a winning streak and had two mooners. Muriel Dzierla also had two and Elma Braida had one. *** The ladies that take the Paper Tole classes will be glad to hear that they will restart on February 22. If you are interested sign the appropriate sheet at the front desk. *** There is Evening Euchre on Wednesday, Feb. 21 at 7:15 p.m. *** The next social dinner is at 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 23. Doors open at 5:45 p.m. It will feature a Mardi Gras theme with Cajun food (not too spicy), which will include roast pork, yams and wild rice. I understand there are some southern style desserts including pecan pie. A Dixieland band will provide the entertainment. Tickets are available. Ladies, dig in your jewelry boxes for all those beads and wear some jazzy bright-coloured clothes to add some cheer during the winter months. Men, I think bowler hats would be appropriate, with armbands on their shirts.
