Bidding is now open to land a date with Acton bachelors Two of Acton's most eligible bachelors have put themselves on the auction block to raise money for the Acton branch of the Canadian Cancer Society. Regional councillor and restaurateur Clark Somerville and assistant aquatic co-ordinator for the Town of Halton Hills and auxiliary police officer John Eddolls have offered to take two women out for an evening later this month. Bids for the "dates" will be accepted through a silent auction open to all single women aged 25 and up in Acton and surrounding area. The auction sheet will be available for sign up at Blue Springs Spa and Salon in downtown Acton. Bidding opened March 26 and will close at 5 p.m. Saturday, April 21. Somerville and Eddolls will donate all proceeds to the Acton Branch of the Cancer Society and to the Acton Angels breast cancer fundraiser. The two highest bidders will be treated to dinner at Tanner's Pub & Grill Saturday, April 28 followed by the Acton Angels' Dance at the legion later that night. Dufferin seeks public's help in planning quarry's future CYNTHIA GAMBLE Staff Writer Dufferin Aggregates is seeking at least 10 residents who want to help plan the future of the Acton quarry. Dufferin is getting a head start on planning the after use of the quarry and some of the lands the company owns adjacent to the operation. Considerations could include sports and recreational facilities, trail systems and naturalized areas for ecological benefit. "This long-term vision may include setting aside many acres of land for public use, environmental protection, reforestation and environmental enhancements, in parallel with a future quarry extension," said Andrea Bourrie, property and resource manager, in a news release. Dufferin is looking for seven people from the Acton community to participate on the After Use Vision Advisory Committee (VAC). As well, the Town of Halton Hills will appoint three members of the public plus one councillor and one staff person. Bourrie said since seats on the committee are limited, preference for committee appointments will be given to individuals with previous public committee experience involving land use planning, recreational and trail use planning and/or general communitybased planning. The purpose of the VAC is to provide advice to Dufferin regarding the after use of the lands associated with the existing quarry. "The VAC will be the community's sounding board and focal point for collaboration and information sharing through the development of an after use vision," said Bourrie. "It will be a mechanism to develop mutually beneficial community-company outcomes."
