Sports Briefs ··· Just a few spaces are remaining in the Georgetown Minor Baseball Association's newly expanded Coach Pitch division for six- and seven- year-olds in 2007. The T-Ball division has been eliminated this year and instead youths born in 2000 or 2001 will be grouped into the Coach Pitch league, which is also known as Squirt. Impact Black in provincial tournament Three Georgetown Impact girls' volleyball club teams played in Bugarski Cup zone tournaments recently in preparation for the upcoming provincial championships and the under-15 `Black' squad was victorious in Barrie. The Impact dropped its first game of the day to London's Forest City before coming back to win the match, then clinched first in their pool by sweeping away the host Barrie Elites and the Durham Regional Volleyball Club. In the playoffs, Impact Black rolled through the Northumberland Breakers and the Durham Attack, setting up a rematch with DRVC in the semifinals, in which Georgetown won 25-19, 25-15. The Halton Hurricanes provided the opposition for the championship, with the Impact prevailing 25-19, 2325, 15-13, earning a berth in the Ontario Volleyball Association Tier I championships April 14-15 in Windsor. Playing in an under-15 division to tune up for provincials, the under-14 Red Impact earned silver medals at a zone tourney in Collingwood, edged out by Midland's Georgian Bay Vistas 22-25, 25-15, 15-10. May 14 Sign-up soon for Murr golf tourney The 23rd annual Paul Murr Memorial Golf Tournament takes place on Monday, May 14 at Blue Springs Golf Course in Acton and spots are still available. More than 250 players are expected to take part in the fundraising tournament with all proceeds going to the Acton Branch of the Canadian Cancer Society. Over the 22 years of the tournament just under $600,000 has been raised and this year's goal is to meet or surpass last year's record total of $53,000. There are a variety of packages available for the tournament: A 7 a.m. Turtle Lake package at $150; a 1 p.m. Turtle Lake package at $175 and a 1-5 p.m. Trillium nine-hole package at $100. Sponsorships and /or in memoriams are also available, with gold sponsorships going for $500 and silver at $175.
