Preliminary plans indicate Halton Hills is in the centre of the study area. The upshot is that the population and industry boom in the GTA West Corridor is outpacing the ability of the transportation system to cope and to do nothing means unacceptable traffic jams and lost time and money for industry. Launched by the provincial government, the study-- that could stretch over years-- will look at an area that sweeps right through Halton Hills. It stretches from Hwy. 400 in the east to Hwy. 6 in Guelph in the west, from Hwy. 401/407 in the south to the Oak Ridges Moraine in the north. The Ministry of Transportation (MTO) held the last of its first public information meetings on Tuesday night at the Halton Hills Cultural Centre. More than 70 people, including concerned residents, Town staff and politicians, showed up to view and comment on the draft Terms of Reference (TOR) for an Environmental Assessment Study. While close to 200 people attended the other three public meetings held in other cities earlier this month, the Halton Hills meeting drew the largest crowd. The MTO study team also plans to make a presentation to Halton Hills council at its meeting on Monday night.
