Acton/Georgetown, Friday, May 4, 2007 13 ENTERTAINMENT Georgetown Choral Society gets into the `Spirit of the Song' The Georgetown Choral Society is preparing for their spring concert, Spirit of Song, conducted by A. Dale Wood. The concert will be performed on Friday, May 11 at 8 p.m. and Saturday, May 12 at 7:30 p.m. at the Christian Reformed Church, 11611 Trafalgar Road, Georgetown. This season brings much excitement for members of the Choral Society as they will be traveling abroad to Ireland in late May. Their season kicked off singing to a full house for A Taste of Ireland, a festive evening cabaret of Irish song. They shared the stage with guest performers, the Ault Sisters, an up-andcoming vocal trio from Mississauga and select members of the McGilvery School of Irish Dancing. All proceeds from the concert will be used to help fund their upcoming trip. This will not be the first time aboard for the Choral Society with past concert performances in Holland and England. Their last trip was in 1995, where they traveled to Holland to participate in the 50th anniversary of VE day. In Ireland, they will be touring the island with selections from the spring concert with performances held in Belfast, Londonderry, Killarney, Cork and Dublin. Joining us for our local spring concert and Ireland tour will be Christopher Dawes. A resident of Georgetown, Dawes is numbered among Canada's leading church musicians, concert organists and choral accompanists. Tickets are still available but, are going fast. To purchase tickets please visit Bergsmas's Paint and Wallpaper (Georgetown Market Place) and The Freckled Lion Children's Bookstore (Main St. Georgetown) or from any choir member. --Georgetown Choral Society Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Matthews are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter Tania Camille to Michael Lawrence Baldwin The wedding to take place September 2007. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday, you can explore the exhibits of over 50 artists at several locations and purchase some fantastic original art-- blown glass, paintings, pottery, sculptures and wood carvings, jewelry and wearable art clothing, metal art. Here is a sampling of multi-talented artists who will be there: · Janine Minor is a Glen resident who has been teaching secondary school visual art in Toronto and Peel District for 15 years. She has exhibited in and won several awards in group exhibits around the GTA, including Mississauga Art Gallery, Colour and Form, and Society of Canadian Artists juried exhibits. Minor's work emphasizes the abstract and animated qualities of natural forms, most frequently "records" of life such as driftwood, bark and other peel formations. Her current mediums are paper relief and plaster sculpture. · The newly-formed group, Chameleon, will presents a spirited fusion of mixed media works by artists Cathy Parker, Sandra Spagnuolo and Sharon Chalmers. It is not unusual for artists to participate in several art forms. Creativity knows no bounds for Parker, who creates incredible jewelry as well as a variety of painting styles. · Tiziana Manierka is part of a group of six artists called Innerscapes, who are exhibiting at Art in the Glen as well as the Cultural Centre. Besides her excellent painting, Manierka is also a graphic artist, and she put together the ArtsWeek brochure that you've seen all over town. In between looking at the art displays, come and listen to the Rising Stars youth concert, a collection of Broadway songs, performed by 13 local teens and 20-something, who are studying vocal music, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday.
