Everyone is working at high gear getting ready for the spring bazaar on Saturday, May 12. There will be mouth-watering baking at the bake table, wonderful crafts at the craft table, plants for the garden and indoors, and at the country store, everything you might want for summer including summer toys. For those rainy days at the cottage, puzzles, games and books. The penny table has some great items, and there is a draw for a hand crafted wheelbarrow loaded with items for summer in the garden. While on the subject of food Gail Oliphant's final presentation for the season was well attended, and she was featuring things suitable for people who were concerned with sugar in their diets. She started with a delicious salad of mixed greens, mandarin orange slices and no dressing. Followed by sliced avocado, pineapple, grapes and cheese, smoke salmon and shrimps. The dessert was angel food cake with strawberries and cream and ice cream. Gail gave out a wonderful booklet on grocery shopping for one. Hopefully she will be back in the fall with more great ideas. There is always something to think about when she makes one of her excellent presentations. Peggy Neilson told me there were nine carpet bowlers at the last game, and Betty Blains's Black team beat Dorothy Purkis's Brown team, 25 to 5. The carpet bowlers were happy to welcome Betty Blain and Grace Graham back from Florida. There is a box for Canadian Tire money near the entrance. We have started collecting the money earlier this year as it was great help last year in purchasing toys and gifts for the two families we helped enjoy a happier Christmas. On May 15 at 10 a.m. Wendy and Bill Krever will be giving a presentation on the Impact of Baby Boomers on Senior Centres. It should be a very interesting as it won't be long before we start to feel the impact of the Baby Boomers in the next few years. It will be a busy day at the centre that day as in the afternoon at 2 p.m. We will be celebrating all members who had a birthday in either April or May. Each birthday person is welcome to bring a guest. The Gals on the Go will be visiting the Sleeman's Brewery in Guelph on May 23 and any ladies that are interested can sign the sheet. The trip to Rama was enjoyed by everyone who went and the 50/50 was won by Lou Lafrombois, the birthday prizes by Shirley Beaumont, Nancy Harvey and Marian Pascoe. The lucky seats were occupied by Rose Morrison, Al McFadden and Ruth McClements. The next Rama trip is Wednesday, May 30. The person whose name was drawn at last Friday's weekly 50/50 had not put her loonie in the box or her name on the list so she wasn't eligible to win. We always have a delicious lunch on Fridays, but we desperately need some more volunteers. If there were enough people, it would mean you might only have to help twice a month. If you are interested please leave a message for Marj Bartels. It would be a shame to see the lunches stop due to the lack of help. They are always well attended and a great social occasion for everyone.
