18 Independent & Free Press, Wednesday, May 16, 2007 Dancing sisters head to pageant Kayla-Rae and Kandace Russiani of Acton will join an international group of dancers from Canada, the United States and Australia in competing at the 29th annual Sweetheart of the Year Pageant in St. Louis over the Memorial Day weekend. The pair, students of the Ronda Copeland School of Dance in Acton, qualified for the pageant at a recent senior dance competition in Niagara Falls. The local duo will perform nightly floor shows during the May 24-28 event. Kim McKimmie, the international director of `I Love Dance', was enthusiastic in her praise of these young dancers and the talent they displayed. "The hard work and hours of rehearsal are obvious," said McKimmie. "I'm sure their parents and local community are very proud of these extraordinary dancers' accomplishments. I applaud the dance teacher also and feel confident that their efforts will result in further excellence on an international level this May at our anniversary international pageant." The local dancers are excited to have been selected to perform in this event where young dancers are given the opportunity to have their work evaluated by qualified, professional and celebrity dance judges.
