20 Acton/Georgetown, Friday, June 8, 2007 Local Bruce Trail Association hosts special event to mark 40th anniversary On June 10, 40 years ago, a dream came true. At a ceremony in Tobermory, hikers and guests gathered to officially unveil the northern cairn of the Bruce Trail and celebrate its completion as a continuous footpath from Niagara to the cairn some 800 kilometres away in Tobermory. The entire trail was built by volunteers and to this day is still maintained by volunteers. The Halton Hills chapter of the Bruce Trail invites all residents of Halton Hills, young and old, to join us at Scotsdale Farm on Sunday, June 10, from 1-4 p.m. to celebrate the 40th anniversary of this event. There will be short hikes in the area, displays showing the history of the Trail and refreshments. On the its way north to Tobermory or south to Niagara, the trail follows the Niagara Escarpment through Halton Hills over private land and through conservation areas.
