Sincerely, Your 2 Day & 3 Day Parents The Halton Region Museum, together with the Halton District and Halton Catholic District School Boards, presented this year's Visions Canada Awards in a ceremony last week. The program is organized by the two Halton school boards and the Halton Region Museum. Each year, a committee from each school board selects the award-winning projects. They are assessed on their clarity of expression, creativity, accuracy, depth of understanding, relevance to Canada and independence of student work. The projects may be of an artistic or academic nature in either of Canada's official languages. This year's entries represent a wealth of diverse forms including essays, paintings, letters, and movies. Local winners include: Primary: Kindergarten to Grade 3 Aswad Baig and Ryan Sideris of Park School, a collage and poem on Canada, Jade Lorito of Holy Cross School, a totem pole model and explanation. Dawson Galway of Holy Cross School, an aboriginal longhouse model Junior: Grades 4- 6 Travis Baker and Brant Cropper of St. Joseph School, brochure on Explore New Brunswick Eion Higgins of St. Francis of Assisi School, an essay on Why I'm Proud To Be A Canadian Group awards Grade 2 classes of Silver Creek School, Postcard Quilt From Across Canada Grade 4 class of St. Catherine of Alexandria School, Postcards of a Nation Grade 6 class of Holy Cross School, a poster, A Tribute To The First Vikings Halton Hills schools get fitness awards Local schools were among the 58 in the Halton District School Board that were awarded the CAHPERD Award (Canadian Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance) for their dedication to fitness. There are three levels of the award, Diamond, Platinum, and Gold. QDF (Quality Daily Fitness which it is known as in Halton) has students in Grades JK-8 doing 20 minutes of fitness each day.
