8 Independent & Free Press, Wednesday, June 13, 2007 Police blotter Acton motorcyclist badly hurt An Acton woman received extensive injuries and had to have her foot amputated after the motorcycle she was driving Saturday afternoon struck a pickup truck near Grand Valley. Dufferin OPP report Lauri Tothe-Parker, 32, of Mill St., Acton, who had just taken delivery of her 2007 Harley Davidson motorcycle Wednesday, was driving northbound on Water St. in a group of five other bikes on Water St. south of Grand Valley at noon Saturday when the accident occurred. Police say Tothe-Parker was an inexperienced motorcyclist who only had her M1 licence and was learning to drive. While coming around a corner, police say Tothe-Parker's bike swerved into the driver's side door of a southbound pickup truck driven by an Alberta man. Tothe-Parker's head hit the truck's windshield, breaking the glass. Her left leg struck the side of the truck and she landed on the roadway. Tothe-Parker was airlifted from a nearby parking lot to Sunnybrook Hospital with life threatening injuries. Police say she underwent surgery and due to the severity of the injury to her left leg her foot was amputated. She also had to have her knee cap replaced with an artificial one, and suffered a broken elbow. At press time police reported Tothe-Parker was in stable condition at Sunnybrook. The driver of the pickup truck, Troy Baczuk, 41 of Cardston, Alberta was not injured. Both vehicles were extensively damaged. Police have completed their investigation and have determined no charges will be laid. ··· Halton Police are investigating the theft of a 2003 Infiniti QX4 from the driveway of a Barnes ., Georgetown home sometime late Wednesday or early Friday. The vehicle is valued at about $19,000. Play ball! Members of St. John's United Church in Georgetown brightened the day for a number of Little Brothers and Little Sisters as they presented 20 tickets for a recent Toronto Blue Jays-Chicago White Sox game.
