Cheers Chantal 10 Acton/Georgetown, Friday, September 14, 2007 The Halton Hills Finance Depart- ment recently received a $20,967 grant under the federal/provincial reinvestment program. The money will be used to offset costs of the first phase ($500,000) of an asset accounting and management system project. It will help senior management and council to keep track and assess the life-cycle costs of its infrastructure such as roads, buildings, parks and cemeteries. Local residents can do their part by reporting what they see on local streets through the Community Road Watch Program. This is an excellent program that the police operate with the aid of Halton residents, said Regional Chair Gary Carr. The program empowers residents to make the Halton commu- nity a safer one. Anyone who witnesses a vehicle being operated in an unsafe manner can submit a citizen report form to Halton Regional Police. The forms can be found at www.hrps.on.ca. Completed forms can be dropped off in one of the secure drop boxes located throughout the community at participating police stations, business and libraries or faxed to police at 905-845-0381. Road Watch is one of the innova- tive programs that partner concerned citizens and the Halton Regional Police Service to ensure community safety, said Police Chief Gary Crowell. Traffic safety is of para- mount importance and we will contin- ue to work with the community to keep Halton a safe and wonderful place to live and work. Once a completed form has been submitted the police will send a letter to the registered owner of the vehicle that was observed. If a second com- plaint is made against the same vehi- cle police will send another letter and may follow up with a phone call or visit. A third report against a vehicle will result in a third letter and personal visit to the vehicles owner by a local police officer. I encourage every Halton resident to participate in the program and join Halton Region and the Halton Regional Police Service in keeping Halton one of Canadas safest commu- nities, said Carr.
