We regret to learn of the death of Mr. Duncan Heron, of Maxwell. Deceased was widely known and universally respected. SUDDEN DEATH! The Sad and Sudden Demise of Mr. Archibald Elliott Rarely have we taken up the pen with feelings of more profound sorrow than at this moment, when it is our sad lot to chronicle the death of one of the most gifted of our county agriculturalists - Mr. Archibald Elliott of Artemesia. The news of his untimely an sudden demise was brought to Flesherton on Saturday morning last, and we are safe in saying that it is many months since our townspeople have received such a severe shock. A great many could scarcely bring themselves to believe the report was correct, until the sad tidings were at length confirmed beyond the sadow of doubt, when the expressions of sorrow and sympathy were universal. As nearly as can be learned at time of writing, the facts in connection with the demise of Mr. Elliott are as follows: - He was in Markdale on Thursday. He appeared to be in his usual good health. Suddenly, some time in the afternoon, he fell in a deathlike swoon or faint. Being restored to consciousness, sympathizing acquaintances tenderly placed him in a vehicle for the purpose of bringing him to the earthly house he was destined nevermore to see in this life. But a short space of the distance between the village and his home had been traveled when Mr. Elliott again became unconscious. not deeming it prudent to continue the journey under such distressing circumstances, the dying man was carefully brought to the residence of his brother in law, Mr. Walker, on the outskirts of the village. Dr. Sproule was then hastily summoned, and arriving shortly afterwards, made an examination, when he informed the patient that if he had any affairs to settle the should be attended to as soon as possible, for he had only a short time to live. The dying man then summoned the members of his household to his bedside, and about midnight on Friday, Jan. 14th, - some thirty hours after teh first severe attack of illness - he passed quietly away to his eternal rest. On Sunday afternoon last the remains of the deceased were borne to the church of England cemetery, Markdale, and lowered to their last resting place. The obsequies were conducted by the orange brotherhood - of which deceased was a very highly esteemed member, - Rev. Mr. Ward officiating. Over one hundred Orangement were present. The funeral cortege was the largest ever seen in this section of Grey, and was proceeded by the Flesherton Band, which palyed the "Dead March in Saul." The late mr. Elliott was for many years a most energetic and intelligent representative of Ward No. 2 at Artemesia Council Board. As a public speaker he had few equals in the county - indeed we have known M.P.P.'s who were not to be compared with him for an instant in real oratorical abilities. He was neither wordy or violent in declamation; but presented his thoughts on various topics briefly and clearly; and although uttered in calm, almost measured tones, they possessed much force. Although we had not a close acquaintance with him, we believe deceased was a gentleman of generous impulses and fired with a laudable a ambition to benefit his fellow men wherever and whenever possible. We also believe that he was a sincere and earnest Christian - one o those kind of men who believe - and life up to their belief - that: "Religion is the life; and The Life of religion is to do good." He died in the prime of life. from all appearances the ordinary observer would have said his chances to attain unto a ripe old age were good. On Thursday he seemed to be in good health. On Friday he was dead. As he was treated for heart disease many years ago, it is probable this was the cause of his lamentably and early and sudden death.
