Kerr The Baptist chapel was crowded to tbg divirs Sunday morning when Rev. Mr. Proudfoot of Sudbury, late Lanca Corp. of the 147ih Batt., preached a utemorial •lermon for thi; late Pte. R. C, Kerr, who fed recently in France. The speaker was peculiarly fitted for this task, luvios- gone overseas with the K7th and know- ing intimately the man whose death be was here to commemorate. The text was taken from Hebrews 4: 9-10. "There [â- emainelh therefore a rest to the people >f God. For be who ia entered into his cest he also liath ceased from his own *.irks a.s God did from hi?.'' He said tb.at Mr. Kerr did not go into the war to wreak vengeance on Germany but as a duty and love for truth that Cierman kullur was trampling underfoot, tnd als J to help protect the smaller nations. There was a Jonathan and Oavid friendship between the tiro that lasted until the end, and many pleasant memories of that friendship would linger with him. One of the men who slept beside Mr. Kerr and wh > was with him most of the time said that he was the tinest man he had ever met. He carritd into the army the same ideals that characterized his life when he was among us, and many men in the Battalion were blessed by his coming. He was respected by all whe knew him and the loss to the boys is a great lass indeed . In closing the addrecs Mr. Proudfoot said that the Canadians over there have a name for thoroughness and Mr. Kerr was one cf the most thorough men there was in that Battalion. The Prince Arthur Lodge, A.F. & A.M, attended the ervice in a body. Mr. Proudfoot also gave addresses %t the servica in Ceylon in the morning and Rock Mills in the evening. The Metho- dist church dispensed with the morniug service to do honor to the brave departed.
