Thurston & Son, Proprietors CEYLON Mr. and rMs. Percy Hunt received a telegram the past week from McGee Sask.,, where they have their farm rented this year, that their barn, two graineries, all the feed and im- plements had been burned by prairie fire. This means a big loss to Mr. Hunt. Trouble never comes single handed. Saturday, while assisting Mr. Arrowsmith at timber, the axe, which he was using, glanced across the foot, .cutting the big toe severely to the bone. The doctor had to dress the wound with seven stitches. This will lay Mr. Hunt up for a time. Much sympathy is expressed for them in their trouble. Miss Viola McDonald has secured a ' position near Swinton Park. Mrs. J. J. Patterson returned Sat- urday from visiting friends in Mark- dale. Mr. Speers of Feversham was a visitor the past week at Mr. S. Hemphill's. Mrs. Knox had a quilting bee on Friday. A pleasant time was spent. Mrs. Jas. McWhinney visited a couple of days the past week at Hanover and Walkerton. Mrs. T. Genoe and daughter were at Markdale on Friday. Master John McMillan spent a few days last week vrith his grandma, near Priceville. Mrs. Ogle and daughter, Miss Mary, who has been visiting Mrs. Roy Gib- son, returned Saturday to their home in Owen Sound. Miss L. Cargoe of Flesherton visit- ed Miss Hazel McLeod the past week. Mr. and rMs. Everett Henry and Dr. and Mrs. Turnbull of Flesherton were the guests o^ Mr. and Mrs. J. Kennedy on Sunday. Hemphill and daughter, Maud, and Mrs. H. Piper motored to Lauiston on Monday. Mr. Jack White returned Monday to his studies at Owen Sound. Mr. Geo. Patterson and Mrs. Henry Patterson of the 4th line visited Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Patterson here Sunday and attended Divine service. I^OCK MILLS Mr. and Mrs. Walter Russell took their eldest; daughter. Lulu, to the CoUingwood hospital on Saturday where she underwent an operation and had her tonsils and adenoids re- moved. The operation was very suc- cessful and we are pleased to report her doing well and hope to see her back to her usual good health soon. Mr. and Mrs. John Wickens and babe visited with her parents, W. T. Pedlar and wife. Mrs. Gorham and son. Bud, of To- ronto are spending a couple of weeks holidaying with her sister, Mrs. Levi Betts. Mrs. Levris Pedlar still remains in a very critical condition and it is thought an operation will be necess- ary. We hope soon to hear of a great change for the better. Nurse McQue of Dundalk is in attendance. Mrs. Geo. Johnson is confined to her bed with the flu. We hope to see her out again soon. Quite a number from here attended the sale of Robt. The Women's Institute had a very successful meeting at the home of Mrs. H. D. McLoughry on Wednesday afternoon of last week. A large number of members and visitors were present. Papers were read by Mrs. J. J. McGee and Mrs. W. Swanton. At the time of writing word was received of the death of Mrs. Robt. Graham, who passed away at her home Monday, April 28th. The de- ceased has been an invalid for a num- ber of years. Mr. Geo. Ross, trouble finder on the Osprey Telephone System, had a nar- row escape by a fall from a thirty foot telephone pole on Friday last, when a wire he was tightening broke and he came down to the ground. The small bones in his ankle were broken and his back was also severely in- jured.
