Thurston & Son, Proprietors EUGENIA Extensive preparations are being: made for the big picnic here on Thursday of this week, and although the memorial committee and those interested in the work wlil not cater to the crowd, he association will no doubt see to it that everyone is sat- ^fied with the day and a big time is expected. Good hot meals will be served at the Eugenia House from. 11 to 2, and also from 6 to 7. The com- mittee have in hand the decorations for the day and we hope a goodly number will turn out Wednesday to assist in the work of decorating for tlie occasion of the visit of Hon. Arthur Meighen. The young people of the community will put on a good dance in the pavil- lion on Thursday for the entertain- ment of the young people in the evening. Those who took interest enoughi in the work turned out on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons and worked very hard and we are sure that every one who visits this spot of interest will be unanimous in saying that we have a memorial to be proud of with the plot as nice as any you would see in the larger towns or city. We feel especially grateful to the two or three farmers who I9ft their own in- terests aside of rteh day and gave their much appreciated assistance in helping the ladies turn the plot into a spot of beauty. Mr. Douglas Wat- son of Toronto also turned in and gave very able assistance, a guest in town and a returned man, of course. The care taker has put considerable work on the entrance to the park by fixing up the roadway and beautify- ing he gateway with a coat of paint, which was badly needed. Mr. Clifford Williams, Mr. Cliflford Bedford and Mrs. Truskit and friend of Toronto were guests of Mr. and Mrs. acob Williams over the week end. Mr. Stanley Campbell was unfort- unate enough to have one finger tak- en and another finger badly cut in the mower one day last week, but the fingers are doing nicely. We believe several stitches had to be put into the injurd digit. At this busy time of the year it makes it very incon- venient to Stanley, but he is fortun- ate in having a good man to help out in the harvesting of his crops. Mr. Wm. Walker and mother, ac- companied by Mrs. 0. J. Walker of Caledon, together with Mr. and Mrs. Tudor and daughter, Jean, holidayed at Wasaga over the week end and vis- ited friends at Elmvale. , Miss iVola Williams has returned to her home in Toronto after spend- ing a week with Mrs. Geo. Wililams at their cottage on the 8th. Fred, Rolph and Jack aLrge have gone to Niagara Falls to spend a couple of weeks in teh fruit district. Mrs. 0. J. Walker of Caledon, and Mr. and Mrs. Broderick and son of Toronto were week end vistors at Mrs. Wm. Walker's. Mr. and rMs. Evans of Owen Sound are holidaying here at present the guests of Mr. nad Mrs. Harry Foester Mrs. Wm. Gotto f Caledon East is the guest of her cousdin, Mrs. Mun- shaw, this week. We are pleased to hear that Mr. eGorge Proctor of Kimberley is hold- ing his own with some slight im- provement. Master Douglas Morgan holidayed with his gandparents, Mr. and Mrs. A. Smith, the past week. Messrs. Munshaw and Morgan mot- ored to Owen Sound the past week and enjoyed a good day's trolling on the lake, several miles out from the beach, and were successful in landing a few fine salmon trout. Mr. P. Munshaw and Gerald Large attended the funeral of the late Thos. Lockhart of Dundalk on Tuesday of last week. Mr. Richard Park will leave this Friady on a trip to the West, where he will visit his brother at Dominion City, also his sisters in Manitoba. Mr. and Mrs. L. R. Munshaw of AUiston spent Sunday at the former's parental home here. Mr. and rMs. .Albert Sloan and children are the guests at the Eug- enia House. FEVERSHAM A goodly number of our villagers and Sir Knights of the R.B.P. No. 343 attended the Derry Day celebra- tion at Markdale on Monday and re- port 8 good crowd and a good time. Mr. and rMs. Nate Henderson, along wtih another gentleman and lady of Brampton, motored over from that town and were here on Wednes- day. Nate was blacksmith in this village some thirty years ago and was met by all his old friends, who are here, with the glad hand for Nate is a hale-fellow-well-met. Mr. and Mrs. Will Colquette and daughter, Betty, of Port McNichol were visitors here on Thursday last. Miss Sadie Wilson fo Toronto is visiting with Mrs. Wm. MuUin Sr. at present. Master Alex. Walters of Toronto is holidaying at his uncle's, Chris. Thomson, of this village. The Feversham Football Club are having a field day on August 23rd. Sports, football and other games, with the Port McNichol Minstrel Troupe for the concert at night. Coluette's orchestra of the Port will supply the music. Come and enjoy yourselves, as teh above troupe has given several concerts this summer to crowded houses. The CoUnigwood Foootball team and played a game with Feversham Juniors, the score being 2-0 in favor of the home team. Miss Hazel Alexander is visiting with firends in Owen Sound. The ackson tent has moved out from here and we hear is going to be erected out Rock Mills way. Miss Cora Dand of Torotno visited at her uncle's, John Spencer, recently. Ivan Alezander has returned home after a two weeks' holiday at Port McNichol. Mr. C. Morris and lady friend spent Sunday with friends at Riverview. Mrs. Alex. MuUin and daughter, Mrs. Van Winkle and little son. Jack, of Toronto have been visiting with the former's brother and sister, Mrs. eGo. Thomson, on the 10th Line for the past month. Mrs. Alex. Henry of Collingwood is visiting with friends in the village. We are glad to see Mr. Joseph Sewell able to get around on crutches after being laid up for some time with a broken bone near his atikle. O. held a social evening at the home af Mr. Mark Murphy on Wednesday evening last. The pro- gram closed by singing "God Save the King," after which lunch was served. A good number was present and a pleasant evening was spent. Miss Eva Goodfellow ef Dundalk is renewing acquaintances once more on the Eighth Line. Mr. Ted Wingiield of Cleveland, who has been visiting friends in Fev- ersham and Collingwood, 'has return- ed home. Misses May and Lizzie Murphy, who have been holidaying in Peter- boro and Toronto, returned home last week, We extend our congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Milton Roberts (nee Bertie Hawkins) on their recent marriage and wish them a bon voyage through life. Mr. and Mrs. P. Loucks, son Cecil, Mrs. Sadie Squire and daughter, Kathleen, visitetd with Mrs. Squire's sister, Mrs. Hawkins on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Standish from Toron- to visited with Mr. and Mrs. James Laidlaw. The grravel road is rather a lively place just now with the new Saugeen cement bridge under construction, also the stone crusher in the gravel pit. Mr. and Mrs. Will Frazer, Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Frazer and Mr. C. Frazer were up from Brampton attending Mr. Thos. Lockhart's funeral and visiting at Jas. Lockhart's, also Mr. and Mrs. R. Fawcett and son of To- ronto. VANDELEUR (Intended for Last Week) Miss Marguerite Stinson is visiting her friend. Miss Wilda Martin in Owen Sound. The bridge over the Saugeen on the highway has been torn down and a new one is being erected. The Inistioge ladies enjoyed very much entertaining their Flesherton and Proton Station friends at Mrs. Milton Bannon's Thursday afternoon. A short .program of singing, recita- tions and addresses of greeting from ladies of the different Societies was followed by contests and races, such as grandmothers' race, fat women's race, thin woman's ra«e, bobbed hair race, etc. Lunch, which was last, if possibly, not least, was seemingly en- joyed by all. Mrs. Leffler and daughter, Kath- leen, motored from Kansas and are visiting the former's brother, Mr. Thos. Bannon. Mrs. Gilbert and family of Wiarton are visiting with the former's par- ents, Mr. and Mrs. John Warling. Mrs. Blair and two daughters are visiting with Mr. and Mrs. J. I. Gra- ham and family. Mrs. Pearson and little son have returned home after spending a month with Mr. and Mrs. F. Boland. Miss Maybee and Mr. Bulmer of Flesherton visited with Mr. and Mrs. Joe Buchanan recently. The Women's Institute held their August meeting at the home of Mrs. Wm. Heard of the gravel road. A large nlumber of members and visitors were present. After the business of the meeting a splendid address was given by Dr. Turnbull of Flesherton, speaking on the various contagious diseases, how to prevent and how to cure them. A good re- port of the county convention was given by Mrs. J. J. McGee. After the program lunch was served by Mrs. W. Swanton, Mrs. A. Hill and Mrs. H. D. McLoughry. Mr. Robert Graham and Miss Min- nie Graham have returned after [spending a month with th fo m r's I daughter at P ris and with other I friends. Mr. E. Flynn of Collingwood is vis- iting his brother, Mr. Jack Flynn. ROCK MILLS Fletkerton, Out The ice cream social, which was held at the home of Chas. Newell on Friday evening, August 15th, was a decided success. The program was a good one and was much enjoyed by all present. Miss McPhail, M.P., was present and gave a fine address. Mrs. Fred Bunt nad son, Freddie, and friend, of Toronto, motored up and spent a few days wtih the for- mer's sister, Mrs. W. T. Pedlar. Bom â€" On Tuesday, August 12th, 1924, to Mr. and Mrs. Sam Osborne, a son. Mr. Ernest Russell lost a valuable horse last week from acute indiges- tion. Mr. and Mrs. Art Porteous and babe, Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Poole and son of Maxwell visited with the form- er's parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Port- eous. Mr. and Mrs. George Patton of Owen Sound visited with her sister, Mrs. Dick Clark. Miss Irene Smith is spending a week with her brother, E. C. Smith, at Sebringville. The Jackson brothers have pitched their tent in Mr. Chas. Newell's bush and have commenced services there. Good crowds are turning out. Miss Delemere and Miss Harper visited the past week at the home of Thos. Betts. Mrs. Tucker spent a couple of days with friends at Chatsworth. The Ladies' Aid Society meets this Wednesday' at the home of Mrs. I. Smith. 'Mrs. Lewis Pedlar spent a couple of days with her family here. (Intended for Last Week) Mr. and Mrs. Amos Smith and son, Clare, also Mr. and Mrs. H. Garner and daughter, Irene, of Toronto are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. S. Gilbert. The de- ceased is a brother of Mrs. Geo. Warling and Mr. S. Gilbert. ' The Vandeleur baseball tournament which took place on Monday after- noon and evening was a huge success. In the afternoon a baseball match be- tween Ow^* Sound and the local team was an excellent game and resulted in a score of four to two. The play- j ers for the home team were : A. Buch- anan, H. Mercer, Geo. Akins, H. Graham, E. Warling, R. Freeman, H. McGee, R. Graham and S. Buchanan, Strathavon won from Kimberley in I the football game by a score of 2-1. 1 Dundalk band was present and gave j excellent music during ths afternoon ; and evening. The good program, ^ consisting of readings, addresses and music, was presided over by Miss Agnes McPhail, M.P. The attend- ance was good and the total receipts were around $325.00.
