Newell on Thursday last, while I on their way home from Markham where they had visited the latter's brother, Mr. Allan .McKinnon, wno had met with a serious accident and who is now a patient in the hospital at Stouffville. Boyce, EUGENIA The young people of Eugena com- munity met in the basement of the United Church on Tuesday evening of last week for the purpose of organ- izing a Young People's Society, under the direction of Rev. Bushell. There was an attendance of 16. The meeting opened with a hymn, with Rev. Bushell leading in prayer, fol- lowed with the Scripture by .^nnieU Turner. Ross of George- town attended the funeral ot Mrs, John Ross. Andrew Koplanyi, a native of Jugo- slavia and a farmer near Corbetton, died last week in a Toronto hospital from ptomaine poisoning. He be- came famous last fall for his team of white oxen that were shown at Dun- dalk and which he used for his farm work. He is survived by his widow. Mi-s. Bert Badgerow and son visited over the week end with relatives in Markdale. Mr. Tom Johns has left for the north, where he expects to find work. Mr. and Mrs. Watts of Shelbume visited recently with Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Park. Mr. and Mrs. Kindle of Clarksburg visited last week with Mr. and Mrs. Cephus Kindle. Mr. and Mrs. Sam Batchelor visited over the week end with Mrs. John Campbell in Owen Sound. Mr. and Mrs. Peter Rickett and son, Leo, of Bolton, also Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Williams of Toronto visited with Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Park and attended the Dyson-Park wedding. Mr. and Mrs. Dave Williams of Flesherton visited recently with Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Sewell. Messrs. Wilfred and Ed. Batchelor and Miss Gladys Batchelor visited with friends at Priceville Sunday. SHERWOODâ€" KNOX The marriagie took place quietly at the United Church parsonage Flesherton, on Thursday Nov. 1st. 1934, Rev. W. J. Scott officiating, of Mrs. Harriet Knox, Toronto, and Mr. Peter Sherwood, Ceylon. After a honeymoon spent "in Toronto Mr. and Mrs. Sherwood will reside in Ceylon. Fenwick. -Mr. Harry Mander Jr. of Toronto spent the week end at the home of Mr. J. Fawcett. Mrs. Fawcett, who has spent the past month or so in the city, returned home with him. A political meeting was held in the L.O.L. hall on Thursday evening of last week at which Miss Agnes Mac- phail, M.P., was the chief speaker. She delivered an interesting and in- structive address. Mr. Alex. Cam- eron was chairman. Mr. T. R. Lever of Flesherton visited one day last week with his daughter, Mrs. C. Martin, a^d also called on a number of old friends. Mr. Lever is feeling considerably im- proved in health after his severe ill- ness a month or so ago. The church was appropriately de- corated on Sunday with wreaths and flags to commemorate the memory of those who fought and fell in the Great War. Rev. Bushell preached a fine sermon suitable for the occasion. Messrs. Jim and Eddie Hargrave of Toronto were week end visitors with the Park families. Miss Christina Magee was home from Stone's Line over the week end. The .Women's Association of the United Church will meet this Thurs- day afternoon, Nov. 15th, at 2 o'clock. Visitors w^elcome. Eby spent Sunday with friends in Port Elgin. We are experiencing a taste of winter in this neck of the woods. About four inches of snow this Mon- day moniing, and still coming. What might have been a very ser- ious accident occuiTed while Mr. and Mrs. Eby were coming home from Poi-t Elgin on Sunday. Two miles north of Flesherton a ear is said to have come over on the wrong side of the road and collided with the Eby car, head on, damagring it consider- ably. The Ebys were lucky to come out of the fray with a shaking up. .Mr. Eby had the traffic officer from Shelburne come up and look over the accident. The other car was owned by Mr. Robt. Saunders > f Durham. Messrs. Eli Robinson and son have enlarged their garage and storeroom and cemented the floors. They have also constructetl new quarters for -.ta^ui.tt aq^ .loj ijuiui am The Osprey Road Superintendent has had some men laying tile in a ditch in front of Mr. Alexander's property. Mr. Wm. Monaghan, who resides two and a half miles ea.»t of here on the eighth line, had the misfortune to have his fine bam burned to the ground on Saturday night. The cause of the fire is said to be un- known and the loss will be great for Mr. Monaghan. as his grain and feed wa.s all lost. The stock was nearly all saved, but there were some hogs and poultry destroyed. Mr. Monaghan had some insurance on the building and contents, but not enough to cover his loss. Mrs. Emerson Shantz of Toronto apent a few days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. B. McLean. Mrs. A. L. Hincks was in Orange- ville on Wednesday visiting her sis- ter, Mrs. G. A. Black, who is in the hospital. Mrs. H. B. Mrs. Ramage returned with them to visit her daughter at Holstein. â- Mrs. John Sinclair of Hopeville, one time a valued choir member of Ebenezer church, was also a welcome visitor at the above home the same day. The Y.P.S. purpose presenting a play on Nov. 23rd in the school room of St. Coluraba Church, by talent from Maxwell, under the manage- ment of Rev. A. Bushell, one time a pastor here. An e>ithiKiastic meeting of the Athletic Club was held m the dining hall of the McVicar House, when new officers were appointed to manage the various activities. Following are the officers: President. .Wilfred Frook; Vice-Pres.. Walter Aldcorn; Sec, Mrs. Boyce; Alternate, Margar- et McArthur; Treas., Rev. N. Mc- Donald; Alternate, Roberta Harrison. A commitee of seven was appointed as managers. A meeting is planned later of the various clubs that feel inclined to compete for the fine sil- ver cup which has been donated as a challenge trophy. It can be seen in the window of F. W. Duncan's hard- ware store, Flesherton, at present. Mr. Finlay Shackleton of Arthur, former principal of the school here, visited friends on Saturday and is in fine condition and spirits. Mr. Jack McMeekin, Toronto, spent the week end at his home here. Mrs. Murray McMillan went to To- on Saturday to spend a few Mr. ronto days. Miss Jean McLean of Toronto spent the week end at her home here. McMeekin and son returned with him.
