McMillan left on Mon- day for Brantflord to be with her aunt, Mrs. G. T. Wood, who Differed a bioken hip on Sunday. Pte. Robt. Whitehead left the first of the week to return to the Forest- ers at Detoert, N.S., after spendihg his furlough with his family here. Mr. and Mrs. Stan Menzies of Lon don were in town the first of th week with the latter's parents, Mr and Mrs. W. Kaitting. Mr. Gordon Long, just north of the village, was overcome by a stroke while in town one day last week. His condition at the present time is show ing some improvement. Mr. and Mrs. \\m. Kaitting re turned the first of the week from a month's visit with their son, Mr. Gay lord Kaitting, at Detroit, and repori a very enjoyable vacation. Saturday morning the towperature was reported as 20 below zero a' Ceylon, the lowest so far this winter The weather man announces that th present mild spell might last Tor some time. Dr. J. E. Milne has been forced tc take a rest <and i away from home at the present time. He was unable to secure assistance to continue his work here.- Dr. Milne's health has not been good for some time, and it i- hoped that he will soon have a complete recovery. In the meantime Flesherton is without the services oi a medical practitioner. Some excitement occurred at the curling rink Thursday evening last at about 11 p.m., when the pressure suddenly went from the hose as J 0. Dargavel, president of the Club was busy flooding the ice. Investiga- tion showed that the pump house at the river was a mass of flames. It is thought that the back-fire from the jrnsoline engine ignited the frame building. As the pump house was isolated there was no danger during the fire, which was over in a few minutes. FLESHERTON STORES OPEN THURSDAY AFTERNOONS Despite any other report to the contrary Flesherton business places are remaining open Thursday after- noons and will not be closed. CEYLON Mr. and Mrs. Will Murdock, Mr. and Mrs. Craig; and daughter of Cal- edon East, also Mrs. Hugh Bailey ol Dundalk attended the funeral of the late Mrs. Alex. McFayden on Sat urday. Mrs. E. C. Mitchell returned on Saturday from Caledon East, where she was called, owing to the serious illness of her mother. Sympathy IB extended to the r tives of the late Mr. Mark Stewart of Flesherlon. Mr. John Stewart and Mr. Will Stewart of Toronto visited their brother, Mr. Mark Stewart, in Owen Sound hospital on Friday. Mr. Stew- art passed away Saturday evening. Mr. Milford Piper has joined the Ordinance Corps and left on Monday to join his unit in Toronto. Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Copeland of Victoria Corners visited Tuesday at the home of their daughter, Mrs. J. R. Sinclair, and Mr. Sinclair. Miss Irene Mathewson of Wood- bridge, Ernie Mathewson of Toronto and Bert Sargent of Shelburne were visitors the first of the week with Mr. and Mrs. Will Mathewson. Mr. Percy Hemphill was in Owen Sound and was accompanied home by Mrs. Hemphill. Jim Kennedy and Ernie Mathew- son left Tuesday for Toronto and will report Thursday in Kingston for service with the Navy. Pte Lloyd Archibald of Dt-bert, N. S., is enjoying 14 days' leave and is at present in Owen Sound.
